It's hard for me to understand the Wilf backlash.

So many of us have suffered through the real shitty owners of this franchise.

The gang of 10 was absolutely horrible... no interest in anything but profit.
McCombs was the ultimate grifter... bought in, invested nothing... sold for huge profit.

The Wilfs kept the Vikings in MN... it was a REAL possibility they would leave.
New stadium.
Premium facilities.
Willing to spend to keep players.
Willing to spend to bring in free agents.

I get it... they aren't football people... they aren't the Rooney's or Maras.

But I've seen a hell of a lot worse.

Backlash?

Your post is not based on football results. Its admiring the shiny ornaments hanging on a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

Its true, the state of the team has all the bells and whistles that government subsidy and vast illegitimate riches can buy. The Wilfs compare very favorably to previous ownership groups in that regard.

But ... why would they move when their established fan base is a sea of long-suffering suckers like myself, hopelessly invested regardless of results? Yeah lets move to Boston and see if we can steal us some Patriot fans with our 4th down short of the sticks results.

Why move when Viking fans and MN government already provide you with the opportunity to slake your real passion – strip malls(?).

Is that too harsh? Maybe we resign Cousins, reel off 3 SB wins and make the Kwesi and O'Connell hires look brilliant. It could happen ... somewhere in the multiverse.

In the meantime ... given the variables like being in limbo for future success, etc ... its not backlash to air one's opinion of ownership, the regime, players, etc as we go along.

Stfu. Brad.. go over rate some shitty Juco’s on your Shitty YT channel..

I'm just saying. You claim they shed no blood or sweat over the team. I'm guessing when you invest $600-million in a business venture, there may have been some blood and sweat involved. Just a hunch.

Money has never been an issue with the Wilfs era. Stadium, practice facility, signing bonuses, etc... have all been top notch.

Choice of GMs is probably biggest fault in their tenure. Kept Speilman around too long and Kwesi is off to a shaky start.

Agree although I'm more cynical about their intentions.

A quick chime-in to point out that neither the Wilfs nor any other owner “spends their own money” on a damn thing. From the salary for the GM, the starting qb, down to the hourly pay for the person filling up popcorn boxes not one nickel comes from the owner. From the big drum and huge horn down to the newest shipment of towels and toilet paper the owners aren’t paying for any of it.

The fans pay for all of it. Season tickets, concessions, TV, corporate sponsors (who get the money from their customers), merch, and favorable tax treatment (aka public money), and the exponential growth of the value of their franchise (aka capital gains) fuel this enterprise. You could make the argument that some owners are slightly better than others in that they don’t pocket the entire 2000 truckloads of money each year. Sure, some “generously” reinvest four or five of the 2000 truckloads back into a nice practice facility in Eagan. Truly the salt of the earth, those types.

I wouldn't give ANY qb $30-50+ mil unless that QB had won me a Super Bowl. Did you win a Super Bowl on your rookie deal? Yes? Great! Here's your hugenormous contract. F it let's just run victory laps and love life. No? Good luck. Next!

New stadium, in which (guessing) the Wilfs paid half. Regardless of the percentage, the stadium boosts the worth of the team tremendously.
Premium facilities. A good real-estate type improvement.
Willing to spend to keep players and bring in free agents. No more of less than most other owners since there is a cap floor and a cap ceiling.

They are not cheap by any means, but what great FOOTBALL decisions can they take credit for? Spielman? Childress? Etc.

What post gives you the sense something is not ok?

Here is my entire last post before your bizarre question: Once the Wilf's got a new stadium they received a couple of decades of goodwill from the other owners.

Exactly! Bill probably lives less than 5 miles from me as a crow flies across the Mississippi but over 40 miles by car.

- and we got hammered pretty good with a couple storms

Any time the Packers play the Cowboys I think what a perfect moment and place for an asteroid strike.

Currently firing away on the mark during the stat-building phase (or prevent D!).

Unfortunately, I was right earlier in the year about Love being a talented but inexperienced QB.

The Vikings need a young, talented QB.

Marty has made an appearance! No surprise with a (likely) GB win. Happy day for him to post away!

Edit - he's going wild on the 'Other NFL News' thread. Well, let him have his moment.

There is a stat that every QB with one playoff victory in 11-12 seasons goes on to string multiple playoff victories together before winning a SB. Those QBs are in high demand. Salt of the earth if you will.
