It was good. 2022 but might as well run it back every two years.

No kidding.

Not sure Kwesi can play the Cousins shell game well enough to get it done this time.

Brzezinski however ...

Brzez is a mere sycophant. Not that there's anything wrong with that....

Reports were last year that he was willing to give us a hometown discount of $37.5 mil/year instead of $40 mil/year, but he wanted all three years guaranteed, and Kwesi was only willing to guarantee two.

Thiose numbers make sense. There is some expense and hassle to moving to a new team and city vs staying put. But any 'hometown discount' more than 5-10% makes no sense. It's an insult to the player to ask him to take more discount and there's no reason he should do it.

Cousins has moved, and moved and moved before. There are also perks that come with moving to a different team that will offset the hassle and expense of moving. If he ended up in Atlanta, his agents would have local endorsements in place (far more lucrative than what he has here) before his Gulfstream G500 even landed at Hartsfield-Jackson.

Exactly. Uprooting the family is one thing, but moving is not necessarily costly or difficult at all. He'll want top dollar and more for any home he sells so it might sit a while. To not lose a precious penny he'll demand offsets (ex. for taxes and insurance)... things "you work through" in the all-important contract "structure". Costs to ship vehicles? LOL, dealers will be falling over themselves trying to put Cousins in one from their dealership.

And unlike journeymen such as Dobbs dragging around a suitcase, there are probably team-employed relocation specialists to assist with most everything.

Add in better endorsements and moving could be a net money maker for KFC. Hope he realizes that!

for those interested, this journalist did an in-depth analysis of all the 4th down plays in this year's playoffs - see link below....

https://theathletic.com/5234675/2024/01/29/dan-campbell-detroit-lions-fourth-down-nfc-championship/

Campbell's biggest mistakes - maybe not what you think:

There are two decisions I think are deserving of some questioning. The first was the decision to kick a field goal on fourth-and-3 from the 49ers’ 3-yard line with seven seconds left in the second quarter with the Lions leading 21-7. Campbell mentioned that he was close to going for it but ultimately decided to turn a two-score game into a three-score game. Unfortunately for Campbell, this decision cost the Lions 4.4 percent in win probability. For context, that was the second-worst fourth-down decision in the playoffs this year — behind Campbell electing to punt up 24-23 in the fourth quarter on fourth-and-4 against the Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round.

Campbell’s other whiff came on the play before Williams’ touchdown late in the fourth quarter — the third-and-goal run by David Montgomery with 1:05 left in the game. This decision probably falls on offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s shoulders as well as Campbell’s. Regardless of who is more to blame, it was a total blunder.

The Lions had found some success catching the 49ers off-guard with runs in passing situations earlier in the game, but this was not the time to risk losing a timeout. And that’s exactly what happened. Montgomery was stuffed for a 2-yard loss, forcing Detroit to burn one of its three timeouts. If Detroit had kept all three, there’s a chance they could have gotten the ball back after forcing the 49ers to punt on the ensuing possession.

The decision, per rbsdm.com, cost the Lions 4.7 percent in win probability. Of course, the Lions’ odds of winning the game before the third down were just 9 percent, so it may not have mattered in the end, but costing yourself more than half of your win probability on one play cannot happen. Campbell might not have any regrets about his other decisions Sunday night, but I’m confident he regrets running the ball there.

So while I do think Campbell should be criticized for his decision-making in the NFC Championship Game, I think it should be for decisions to take the points before the half and for running the ball when keeping as much time on the clock as possible was vitally important.

He made it up. There was no poll. He used to be a fun follow because he gets a few inside scoops every year. Now he’s mostly a MAGA poster and big time Kirk stan.

I would guess that if a poll was done it would have to include cost. 2/90 would be 92% against. 2/60 would probably be 50%.

I would think he views 2 years gtd 60-65 as a win-win ...

somebody out there might pay more (so sort of a team discount, i.e. he can espouse his 'money isn't the only thing') and he gets a little more 'structure' than a one year deal.

There must be a way we can through osmisis get the word out to some middle of the road teams that Kirk is what they need, that he could Stafford them to a Super Bowl win.

Kirk, the missing ingredient.

I think so. It seems like the money is as polarizing for some fans as opinions about his ability.

I've made it clear where I stand ... 0/0 ... but I get that simply isn't where the team stands.

on vikingsterritory.com they have a poll running that uses the $90mm/2yr deal, and it's at 85% against giving him that contract....

we absolutely have to draft a QB in the 1st round this year...we might not be this close again for a while....

Your state of mind is vastly superior to mine.

I can see us very easily having top ten picks in the next few years.

Don’t know what prospects will be available so in a strong QB class you grab what you can when you can.

Spotrac has his market value at 39.3M - not that far from the reported 45.

ESPN: 2024 NFL free agency: Ranking top 50 players.

3. Kirk Cousins, QB, Minnesota Vikings
Age entering 2024 season: 36

Before tearing his right Achilles in Week 8, Cousins was completing 69.5% of his throws and had 18 touchdown passes to five interceptions. He's an easy fit for a system with play-action elements in the pass game, and he should be viewed as an immediate upgrade for many offenses this offseason.

8. Danielle Hunter, EDGE, Minnesota Vikings
Age entering 2024 season: 29

Hunter's 16.5 sacks ranked fifth in the NFL this season, and he also had 54 pressures, 23 tackles for loss and 4 forced fumbles. With his long frame and great short-area speed, Hunter has the upper-level pass-rushing traits that NFL teams want on the edge.

If the Vikings are not looking at a long-term solution at quarterback, they are not a serious franchise.

Exhibit A would be the Packers. They drafted Rodgers in the first and groomed him for 3 years behind Farve. They drafted Love in the first round and groomed him for 3 years behind Rodgers.

Both times, the Packers were criticized for taking a QB in the first round when they should be bolstering the roster around their HOF QB. After year 1 with Love at the helm, I don't think they regret either decision.

I contend that their strategy, being way bolder and forward thinking than ours during the same period, is still too conservative. They could have moved on from Favre and Rodgers a year earlier each. That said, they were still able to trade both of them and receive compensation. We never drafted, therefore couldn’t trade our guy for anything, and now might pay him yet again and run it all back again. Their way netted two superbowl wins and should have been more. Our way netted one theoretical make believe MVP award.

I’m not sure we’ve learned anything.

It feels like our intense internal discussions are about how to continue to suckle at the Cousins teat* while waiting for the perfect prospect to fall into our lap (now in its third offseason).

Not, how do we commit to the long term solution first.

(*because really ... if we’re honest with ourselves ... being a Cousins sycophant is the strongest form of suction)
