Update: The Vikings re-negotiated the void date on Marcus Davenport's deal this weekend. It now matches the expiration date for the deals of Kirk Cousins and Danielle Hunter (3/13). A little more time to see if there is any common ground. Davenport's deal will NOT void today.

The Vikings' 1-year deal with Marcus Davenport had 4 voidable years that lowered his 2023 cap number ($6.2m). As @Jason_OTC notes, the deal voids today + creates $6.8m of dead money. Davenport received an $8.5m signing bonus, $1.5m salary and $468k in roster bonuses for 4 games. x.com/Jason_OTC/stat…

I read the opposite. The bank was ready to auto-debit $6.8 million today, so Kwesi got the due date changed. And that increases the chance Davenport returns.

Clown show.

gzuz you're a stickler for detail.

I was focused on having one nice tidy lump of big accelerated dead money, swallowed all at once.

But its true, why push it back a couple of weeks ... to what purpose?

Just to get it in the next league year? That makes no sense.

I guess we only have about 9M right now before the new league year kicks in. (sportrac)

Maybe incentives still need to be covered before March 13.

who knows.

Injuries on top of injuries. An extension that kicks $7M old and millions in new dead cap through to 2026 when the new GM has to deal with it. Absolutely perfect! Word Salad is salivating.

Watch Kwesi overpay for that scrub Davenport and tack on more void years to stash and "dead cap" his salary so that he can sign MORE overpaid injured guys.

He'll go through the same crap next year, but Davenport's dead cap will be more. Eventually the ever-tightening debt vise will squeeze Word Salad out of a job, at least one can hope.

i'm shocked that kwesi is even entertaining 'more davenport'...he must feel pretty desperate regarding the edge - spotrac moved davenport off the roster and down to 'dead cap' - perhaps they missed the extension....

Those sites are probably like "WTF, Minnesota again." They need to hire someone full time just to keep up with the Vikings' crazy void year shenanigans.

I’m not convinced another go with Cousins is off yet but it kind of feels like it won’t happen simply bc neither side will be willing to budge. Which is fine for myself and others bc we want it to be done but shitty in a way bc it’s their preference to still have Cousins for years.

Davenport's 'production'. Six years in the league. 23.5 sacks (Wonnum has 23 in four years).

He is what he is.

No way.

I refuse to believe we are resigning Davenport.

The move to push payment back has to be administrative.

My expectations are low but, c'mon Kwesi, don't sink us to laughingstock.

I wonder what Brzezinski thinks of all this.

He's gone from financial wizardry to shell games with a pea.

Odds are that gets forwarded to next league year....and also those incentives not reached?

Chicago Bears are expected to make a choice on whether to keep or trade Justin Fields next week.

Fields today removed the Bears from his social media accounts.

The post was referring to Davnport's money being pushed back, not what happens to money left over on the cap now.

(As in, maybe not enough money to tie up all the loose ends before the league year ends, so Davenport's bill was pushed back)

I was more referencing if the 2024 Season year included what wasn't used in 2023; looked and Sportrac and 28 million is including what wasn't used last year.

Quick looksie and 28 million plus an obvious Dean Lowry cut (no dead cap) frees up another $4,482,345. Nick Mullens being cut frees up $1.8 million. Gaskin and Harry aren't guaranteed contracts either and that would free up another 1.8.

The way things have GONE ... there is no way of knowing who is going to get extended resigned and if that will be reasonably structured.

I mean, you can't get any more litmus testy than Davenport. As far as what we should be doing.

We should be letting Smith go now. If our main goal as an organization is to be perceived as player friendly. Which it seems to be.
