He just isn't the same player since he got hurt last season. I have a feeling he still isn't feeling quite right physically and it's mentally holding him back from cutting it loose and just playing. And, he's finding out he can't just play the same way as usual in the NHL. He has to keep working on his game and changing because everybody is just too good and they will figure you out and be ready for you.

SPOILER ALERT.

Reusse’s Turkey of the year column is out, of course. Always very entertaining reading, whether you agree all his choices for finalists or not. Even when I feel it’s not deserved, he has taken the cheap shot to an art form and it’s hilarious. Every city needs a grumpy old man columnist to say the emperor has no clothes.

This years winner. Can’t say I disagree with a single word.

is:

"20 Years of Wild hockey."

The tickets and apparel get more expensive, and yet you keep streaming in from Woodbury and other suburbs, wearing your jerseys, filling the arena, accepting the idea that overtime wins are wins but overtime losses are not losses, but now realizing the predetermined outcome is to again make the playoffs and then go away quietly in the first round.

This season, the Wild seem prepared to do you a favor: miss the playoffs, so you don't have to bother making the advance payment and then checking your account to see if the rebate is in there yet after the playoffs end with two or three home games.

Let's face it: There hasn't been any spring fun with the Wild on West Seventh Street since Jacques Lemaire's amazing underdogs made that astounding run to the Western Conference finals in 2003.

This Wild Turkey is for you, ticket buyers. You have deserved so much more.

The Wild have become very hard to watch these days. It is almost to the point of cheering for a lose so we can get a better draft pick. But, at least all the guys are set with new contracts with no trade, no move clauses.....

This is just a bad team that has no avenue to get better. Guerin has boxed them in with a series of bad decisions.

Extend Spurgeon at $7.5M per
Extend Foligno at $4M per
Extend Hartman at $4M per
Extend Zuccarello at $4M per
Extend Golly at all
Extend Fleury at all
Let Fiala go instead of signing him for Spurgeon money
Might want to rethink the Suter buy out while you're at it. Attitude issues aside they have to take the same cap hit and sign another player to take his place.

The Wild can't bring up top prospects because they are so capped out. The only hope right now is to move a couple of overpriced role players at the deadline. I was all in on Billy when he was hired. Now he is just another failed Wild GM. An even more arrogant one than his predecessors.

I would get rid of DE first and see how they respond. Don’t disagree BTW

The only option is to fire Dean at this point. Like Sweens said above, he has boxed us in with his bad contracts. I would much rather be watching a bunch of the young guys taking their lumps and learning how to be pro's than watching our 30-somethings get slower over the next few years with no way to move on from them. Currently the 2 best players on our team are our rookies in Rossi and Faber. It would be nice to see some of our other youngsters get a chance....

I'm watching the Wild. They are pretty bad. Just tied it up, but they were thoroughly outplayed in the 1st period.

They've become unwatchable, and I had such big expectations going into this season, although now I can't remember why.

Not surprising. And I’m fine with it. But honestly I don’t know what any coach could do with this ragtag bunch. There are a handful of top line players, a couple of decent prospects, and the rest of the roster wouldn’t make a majority of other teams in the NHL.

Anyone who thought this year was going anywhere was kidding themselves.

This one is for Sweens..... I was surprised to see this in the Q&A on The Athletic.

I never thought I would ask this, but are the Wild really missing Matt Dumba this much? Was he a bigger impact on the team than many fans, including me, really gave him credit for? — Andy G.

It seems like it. Imagine this team if you could have Faber on it with Dumba. Like him or not, Dumba brought speed and energy and was a big voice. Plus, he embraced his penalty-kill role last season and played well on it. Spurgeon’s injury didn’t help, but he and Brodin have not been good on the PK this season and Faber’s had some rough moments there. Add in that Jake Middleton has struggled overall and the third pair is a mishmash, and the Dumba loss hurts.

Agreed, but this firing was overdue.
Now Billy needs to fire himself....

The short answer is no, they don't miss Dumba at all. Dumba currently has 4 pts and is -9 in 19 games. The Wild have plenty of right shot defensemen who can drift out of position and turn the puck over.

Show of hands; who is surprised that Billy went right out and hired somebody who coached in the Penguins organization while he was an exec there? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

Really glad the fired the coach in charge of the PK also. That has to be fixed pronto to salvage anything.

Do you think the new coach is better than Evason? If they can't get Special K and Boldy turned around it won't matter.

Somehow Darby remains. It's gotta be his 3rd or 4th coach. Unbelievable how he stays around. He always has some hand on the PP (that is historically crap) and yet, he stays and they just bring in a new guy to help him. That new guys is always the fall guy.

Matt, you can never be accused of having a bad memory. I assume you're referring to my comment a couple of weeks ago that my disappointment with the way the team was going was compounded because I had high expectations going into this season. I was clearly wrong, and also clearly kidding myself.

They need a total youth movement. I’ve been saying this for a couple of years now. Why fill the roster with has beens who never were just to sneak into the playoffs and take a quick exit. It makes no sense. Stop pretending you’re a contender.

Rossi, Kasparov, Faber, and maybe Boldy if he gets his act together. Everyone else, blow it up.

Edit: Okay keep Erickson Ek too. He’s bad ass.

Friendly sports banter is not calling out. I only call out MAGA morons. Oops too political?
