I think it would deplete our picks too much to try and get back into the 2nd.

After years of Spielman's "quantity over quality", I'm not opposed to trying the opposite.

We're partway there with #11 and #23.

I was right about the importance of WR at the time I suggested drafting one every round, the Vikings had very little at WR at the time.

Since it's so hard to get a franchise QB, and this is supposed to be a great year for QBs, getting 2 of the top 6 might tilt the odds a little in your favor, and you walk away with a franchise QB. That might not be so bad.

The discussion was about up to QB and moving the day three picks.

But anyway, getting into the 2nd is a non-starter.

I doubt it helped Brock taking 3rd team reps.

Probably not, but I wouldn't complain if the Vikings got the same amount of success as the 49ers, being one drive away from winning the Super Bowl, but I do really want the Vikings to WIN a Super Bowl.

You play (and even start!) multiple WRs. Not so with QB.

And all of them are going to need significant work to reach their potential. You can't split that up between 2 guys. If you draft 2, you're more likely to get zero.

At this point in the process, based on everything I’ve heard, I don’t think the Vikings can afford to wait until No. 11 if they want one of the top four quarterbacks. They’re going to have to trade up. Are they giving up too much? It’s certainly possible. But if they believe McCarthy can be their long-term Kirk Cousins replacement, shouldn’t they be OK with sending out their 2025 first-rounder?

I have McCarthy at No. 14 on my Big Board, but I can see on tape why a team might take him in the top five. He has intriguing physical traits and took a huge step forward as a precision passer in 2023. In Minnesota, with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson catching his passes, he would have the playmakers around him to succeed as a rookie.

We can't afford to spend two picks on QBs. Especially high ones.

People still think the offseason is the same as 30 years ago when there were several months of two-a-day practices.

A common refrain from coaches is it is a struggle to get everyone the proper amount of reps, and in many cases they can't get in the minimum number to make proper determinations about potential backups. Hence sometimes talented players are released during cutdowns.

If a guy like Rattler or Milton slip to the 5th round, sure. Take a flyer.

Essentially what he's saying is that the Vikings love at least some of the top tier QBs, who could presumably carry a team, but they also love some of the 2nd tier guys who wouldn't require a trade up, and thus would leave them with more assets to build a better team around him.

I'm sure this has been mentioned at some point.
If we get beat out for the top 3 or maybe 4 for a QB, Thoughts about trading up for Marvin Harrison Jr? Carter and Moss made 3 average QB's look like pro bowlers. I'd think this trio with Hockenson and Aaron Jones could do the same of even more for Darnold. So we wait for a year to upgrade the QB position or see what might come available. That would be some darn nice offensive weapons for 4-5 years before it became a cap issue.

Option 1 - Biggest move in draft history…Vikings trade 5 1sts to get to 2 for Daniels.

Option 2 - Our 2 frp’s to 5…Vikings take McCarthy.

Option 3 - Vikings take Penix or Nix at 11.

Super exciting, kind of exciting, play it safe.

What it sounds like to me is if a guy they really love/covet is there with a trade up, they will pursue it but wont break the bank for any of them. They have set a limit as to how much they will give up to trade up and will be comfortable drafting one of the lower tier guys if they don't get one of the top guys.

No, but getting the right one, or getting a franchise QB is more important than any other need.

I would go along with Paul's idea, as I think Harrison Jr. is very likely a stud, and that would give you future options to trade JJ. I just don't think the Cards would accept just our 2 1st round picks, when they probably need Harrison Jr. pretty badly.

I would not. We have too many holes to add to what might be our biggest strength.

I like MHJ a lot, but I'm not even convinced he'll be the best WR from this draft.
