Rumblings about Centers the Wild are after:
Brock Nelson, N.Y. Islanders 33
Dylan Cozens, Buffalo Sabres 24 (rumor is that the Wild scouts are at all Sabre games) 5/35 left on contract
Scott Laughton, Philadelphia Flyers culture guy
Yanni Gourde, Seattle Kraken 33, 2 time Stanley Cup Champ, and pending UFA
Jake Evans, Montreal Canadiens

I'm hoping the Nelson chatter is just another "he's a Minnesotan so let's bring him home" thing. No thanks for what he'll cost.

I want nobody in their 30's, we have enough of them already. Brock Nelson is a hell of a player, but he is hitting the age where there is bound to be a drop off so I say we pass.

The only way a Nelson trade could happen is if the Wild keep Kaprizov on the LTIR the rest of the regular season and activated him for the playoffs. Otherwise, there is no way to fit him under the cap. According to Guerin, KK is expected back before the end of the season.

Basically Russo hinted it is the worst kept secret (Brock wanting to play here).

I could see signing him to a 3 year contract at the most as a free agent. Losing younger assets or draft picks in a trade isn't a good option in my opinion.

Not much talk about it....6'5" Justin Brazeau for Lauko and Khusnutdinov.

Wild add big winger Justin Brazeau in deal with Bruins
Wild get: Forward Justin Brazeau.
Bruins get: Forward Marat Khusnutdinov, forward Jakub Lauko, sixth-round pick in 2026.

Brazeau is enjoying a breakout season with 20 points in 57 games as an everyday NHL player for the first time in his career. The 27-year-old pending free agent is one of the slowest players in the NHL but makes an impact with a heavy playing style and genuine net-front utility.

Khusnutdinov was a highly touted prospect from the KHL and while he’s struggled to make an offensive impact in his first full NHL season (seven points in 57 games), he’s still only 22, boasts an impressive speed/work rate combo and is already a very solid defensive player.

Wild grade: B-
Bruins grade: B+

I had just finally gotten comfortable pronouncing Khusnutdinov.

Oh well. Next guy up.

Just what the Dr ordered. A big, slow, pending FA who's a 1/3 point per game player for the first time in his career

He's 6'5" 220, but can he fight? Why else would we want him...

Sounds like we kicked the tires on Boeser but stood pat. He'll be a priority on July 1. The uncertainty of KK is the only reason we are/were poking around, IMO.

As the saying goes, you have to give up nothing to get nothing. Brazeau's role is to be a large object in front of the net and he has apparently had some success. He doesn't really do much beyond that. To get him we gave up Lauko, who is a dime a dozen player and Khusnutdinov, who is the Russian Jordan Schroeder.

I don't know what publication says Khusnutdinov was a highly regarded prospect. He wasn't. His numbers in the KHL were pretty pedestrian and he was never rated that high in the Wild system. Like Schroeder, Khusnutdinov is fast with a high IQ. Also like Schroeder, he is undersized, not particularly strong on the puck and lacks the hands, shot and high level passing skills to be a productive offensive player.

Which is why it’s a bit baffling that we kicked in filler to make it happen 🤦‍♂️

Lauko was damaged goods so it was nice of Boston to take him back....they can keep Vinni though.
It was a move just to make a move if you ask me.

The filler is probably because the Wild were pretty much limited to a dollar for dollar trade. They are something like $8.57 under the cap. In the end, this is a trade that will likely benefit neither team.

It looks like Boston is in full rebuild mode and the pick may help them move up in the draft at some point but that is about it.

Ryan Carter with the years best unintentional trolls during the 2nd period today. After the Wild go up 2-0 on the Sabres. "I'm curious to see how Buffalo plays now that the game is what they're more used to"

I'm just glad the Wild got another win today. Looking at the upcoming schedule they may not get many points for a while......
