Status: offline 		Weak end to a pretty damn good Finals.
Philly's tending completely collapsed on them.
Most of Chicago's goals the past couple games were of hte weak variety, including the Cup-winner.
My how people forget how low the Blackhawks were a very short time ago.
Any more smoke-blowing around here about "it takes a long time to get to the top" should be met with disapproval.
They quickly turned that franchise around, from worst-to-first.
Follow the blueprint, or make your own, but dammit, the people of Minnesota deserve a Cup winning hockey team every bit as much as the people of Chicago do.

Great playoff, as usual.
Nothing more grueling and thrilling as the chase for Lord Stanley.
Btw ... when Chicago last won the Cup in '61, they won it in mid-April.
This mid-June stuff is a little crazy, isn't it?
We started our summer prep league for NEXT year tonight, on the same night the NHL just finished their season. Thats crazy.

Status: online 		Towes didn't deserve it, I agree.  Should have went to Big Buff.  He had what, 5 game winning goals?

SMF, agreed on Leighton.  He was terrible last night (and really most of the series).

Was great to see Pronger with that stupid look on his face when he was called the first 5 minutes for punching Towes in the head. 

Fargo, I started laughing to myself about Hossa when he basically scored on his own team to let Philly back in to it.  I thought "damn, that dude really is cursed".  Worked out for him in the end.

I really applaud Filthy's tenacity.  It really looked like there were 8 Hawks out there at times.  It was that lopsided talent wise.

Status: offline 		The winning goal was pretty weak, wasn't it.  I mean, the goalie was strangely in a bad position before the shot with his stick off the ice.

He is the symbol for everything that is wrong with the modern athlete and free agency, imo.
He was one of the main reasons I wanted Chicago to lose.

Big Buff got ripped out of the Connie .... he was by far the difference-maker in every series.
HUGE goals when they needed them most. For the entire playoffs, which is what the Conn gets awarded for.

He was pretty good in the NHL '95 Sega game I played non-stop for 3 years.

Status: online 		Sadly, IMO, the NHL has no grounds to stand on.

1. They've let this fly before. How can they now convince an arbitrator after they've approved other deals structured like this (Hossa and Luongo come to mind).

2. The CBA has no language in it to prevent stuff like this. It's completely legal based on that BS agreement.


What's going to be really sad is, because dumb ass Bettman is in charge, we are staring at another lockout in 2 years. That will kill the league. Anybody got any KHL stuff they want to get rid of????

Status: online 		I think it got to the point where the amount of years just got too ridiculous. In each of these contracts the envelope has been pushed farther. 13 then 15 and now 17. I think the NHL is just saying enough's enough.

Status: offline 		Yesterday ESPN reported that NJ knew it wouldn't be approved so my guess the whole deal might have been put together by the agent and team submitted it to appease them.

Status: offline 		Hartford Whalers revival: I mentioned today on the Twins Players/Prospects board that the Whalers might be revived. Here are details:
Hartford has had an American Hockey League team (Hartford Wolfpack) ever since Whalers moved to Carolina in late 1990s. Attendance in 16,000 seat building has never benn better than around 5,000 - and quality of play is much lower than NHL - and media coverage is very poor.
--There's a loyal band of old Whalers fans who (maybe wishfully) want an NHL team back.
--The arena (same one Whalers played in) is controlled by a real estate developer named Gottesdiener who always said he'd want to bring in an NHL team if a new building was built - current one has very few luxury boxes.
--Gottesdiener now has financial troubles and is about to sell his arena/team interests, apparently to Howard Baldwin who was the original Whalers owner from the 1970s.
--Baldwin would rename the AHL team to 'Whalers' and do heavy promotion to raise attendance. He would then try to get 1 of the NHL's financially shaky teams and bring it in. He would use increased AHL attendance to prove Hartford would still support hockey and then do some maneuvers to get a new building.
--Baldwin is likely to gain control of the team in the next few weeks so things could start happening in the next year.
--Hartford is a small market, but attendance was always good here; the last Whalers owner (Peter Karmanos) got greedy, alienated all the local politicians, and thought Raleigh NC was a goldmine.

Status: online 		I think all of middle/eastern Canada would boycott the game is that happens. They've been begging for a team back in Winnipeg or Hamilton. I honestly don't see it happening. Not enough fan base. What I would do though, If I were Bettman:


Get rid of Atlanta, Phoenix, Florida and possibly Tampa. Put a team in Winnipeg, Hamilton (suck it Leaf fans, deal with it) and then try my luck in Seattle and maybe Kansas City. I would give serious thought to disbanding Nashville too.

Status: offline 		The Cup Champs have been forced to cut loose 8 regulars from their team of last season, ncluding their #1 tender.
Thats brutal.
They are loaded with young talent, so there's no reason to feel sorry for them, but this has Florida Marlins written all over it.
What a shame. Not a fan, so I'm not crying about it, but man, what a strange off-season for the Champs.

Status: online 		Yeah but everyone knew that was coming it was just a matter of "who". Actually, I'm pretty surprised they lasted as long as they did. I thought they would unload a couple last off season. I guess they knew it was a go for broke year. Luckily for them, they got the cup. They better hope to be in the Detroit mold soon. Great top 5 and a bunch of aging would-be-stars that sign on for the cheap hoping to get one last ring. If not, I don't see them winning multiple cups.

I had no idea there were som many of these weird "long-years" deals out there.
Odd how they say this one isn't right, and the others are ...
Hossa's pays him until he's 44. Thats not right, either, imo.
