Yeap. Hossa, Luango, there are a bunch. This one was the straw that broke...you know the cliche. I don't blame the Devils for trying, it's been done before. This one was just a little so ridiculous even Bettman figured it out.

Scott, Preds game was exciting as hell tonight man. Boring 1st period but then all hell broke loose and was very entertaining, including 3 fights.

Crowd was very pumped, though of course there were a ton of Blackhawks fans there.

Atta boy, skilz .... best bang for the buck in pro sports.
Glad to hear you had a good one.
I always hope that when part-timers do attend, they get it all, the skill, a close game, and a couple good scraps never hurt.

While working in Calif I talked to a lot of guys that they needed to see a hockey game in person to see what it was really like and then they went to a Kings or Ducks game and came back and told me how much they enjoyed it. They then started following it on TV more.

I still just can't bring myself to get into it on TV.

But in person, no question, it's incredible.

It doesn't hurt that I'm lucky enough to have Preds friends that can score me amazing seats for free.

Okay this selection thing seems bizarre. About an hour ago we peeked in and happened to see when Burns and Havlat were picked. We just checked back in an hour later and one more guy has been picked since then, but a bunch of rookies or something were divided up???

Now they're down to the last four guys and this thing is looking like the humiliation of being the last person chosen for playground kickball.

How did they make the selection process last three hours? I watched a total of about four minutes and thought it went on too long.

At least neither Burns nor Havlat are in these last four.

I'm no hockey expert, so one of you guys help me out here if you saw it....OT of the Caps/Blackhawks game. Caps win on a goal where I thought the player was clearly in the crease....at least when he received the pass. Now, it looked like he might have pulled his skates out of the crease when he shot the game winner. But the announcers said nothing about any controversy, so maybe I'm just crazy. One problem, I think, with the NHL and the announcers is they don't explain things like this to the casual viewer. Help!

Campbell, it should be pointed out, made one of his first acts the abolition of the ridiculous “toe-in-the-crease” rule, under which it was an offence for an attacking player to have a sliver of a skate blade inside the blue paint, regardless of whether the goalie was within six feet of it. It was after the brouhaha in Buffalo, where Dallas’s Brett Hull won the 1999 Stanley Cup with an overtime goal when his skate was clearly inside Dominik Hasek’s no-toe zone. The league declared it a good goal, and tens of thousands of Buffalonians are still sour about it.

“That wasn’t hockey, the way the rule was,” said Campbell. “You could have a goalie hugging the near post and the puck comes across and a guy at the back post puts it in, and it’s no good because he’s got a skate inside the crease?

“So we worked a whole day to fix the rule. And the whole premise is, the goalie has the right to make a play on the puck without being interfered with, inside or outside the crease. And the referee gets to make the call, at his discretion.”

Clear as mud, Matt?
In other words, its no longer automatically wiped out if a part of a player is in the crease (good change, imo)
But putting calls of that sort at the discretion of the on-ice ref is always dangerous.
Clearly a case where the Dallas/Buffalo non-call changed the rule book from that point on.
They are like any other sport, who create gray areas where they can hide their officials behind blown decisions.
To me, at this point, it looks like if you (without "help" from others, like a push in the back into a goalie from the opponent) ...do not make blatant contact with the goalie at the time the puck goes in, its ok.
So we're right back where we started from.

Thanks for the explanation. I remember the whole uproar about the Hull goal, and that's what I had in my mind....that they were keeping a very close eye on skates in the crease because of that. Missed the change back. Thanks.

Didn't look like the shooter made any contact with the goalie, so a good goal makes sense. It was weird how the Blackhawks just let him camp out in front of the net like that though. Could see a goal from Washington coming in that OT from a mile away.

You don't want that happening? Hire Billy Smith as your goaltender coach.

You would start that game at 6'2" and end it at 5'0".

Michelle Beadle, who’s become a goddess for sports geeks, is dating a former NHL player. USA TODAY reports that Matthew Barnaby, who played for the Sabres, Penguins, Lightning, Rangers, Avalanche, Blackhawks and Stars, is going out with the host of ESPN 2′s Sports Nation.

Barnaby lives in Buffalo and owns a construction company with his former Sabres teammate Rob Ray. He’s also an ESPN hockey analyst.

Love the John Scott quote. Classic.

Good to see Oshie back and apologizing. This is one league you still have to toe the line in.
He's got one hell of a career ahead if he stays on track.

Greatest tourney in sports starts tonight.

Caps vs Rangers ....... Dogfight. Closer than it appears on paper. Caps in 6
Flyers vs Sabres ........ Another tight one. Flyers are built for playoffs, wish it wasn't so, but , Flyers in 6
Bruins vs Canadiens ... Bloodbath potential. Mismatch on ice tho. Unfortunately, Bruins in 5
Lightning vs Pens ....... Respect what Pens have done. Great coaching. This is a loaded 'Ning team tho. Lightning in 6

Canucks vs Blackhawks ..... Pisses me off we got Chitown in, I despise both these teams, wish both could lose. 'Nucks are loaded. Vancouver in 6
Sharks vs Kings ................ Gonna keep picking Sharks until it happens. Kings will be great soon, not now. Sharks in 6
Red Wings vs Coyotes ....... Always interesting. 'Yotes are dangerous and could stretch this thing out. But Detroit is soooo good. RedWings in 6
Ducks vs Preds ................. Tough one to call imo. Ducks aren't that impressive, Preds have never won a series. Upset special. Preds in 7

If schedule permits, going to try to make one or two of the Preds' games.

Best couple weeks in a hockey fans world.
Good start tonight.
Phoenix started out hot, then the RedWings experience and skill took over. Bet the home team wins every game of that series.
Caps and Rangers were exaclty as advertised, just a dogfight. NY scares the crap out of the Caps. HUGE to tie that one late and win it in OT.
Disappointing night in Pittsburgh. Bylsma may be doing the greatest coaching job in the history of sport. It'd be like the Miami Heat winning 60 games without LeBron and Wade.
The Bolts have way too much firepower to get shut out. Acted like they didn't belong tonight.
'Nucks and Hawks pretty much as advertised.

Do it if you can, skilz .... nothing better imo, than playoff hockey. They play like their hair is on fire.

Another awesome night.
I'd really love to see Buff and Montreal win their series, they probably won't, but man, winning that first one on opponents ice is HUGE.
Great goaltending from Miller and Price, both were so calm and quiet, just textbook goaltending from both.
Sharks and Kings in OT, thats going to be a GREAT series.

I read where some think that Richards was straped with little talent and that no other coach would have done much better. Some times we do need to look at the guy that assembles the team. What he views as talent might not be to others.

No doubt.  I'm giving CF this year before I tear in to him too.  The only reason I've not given him S is because dandy Doug really crippled the team.

TR may be a fine coach one day.  IMHO that time is/was not MN and not now.  A change had to be made and you can't fire the team.
