Congratulations to the Gopher women for knocking off #5 Ohio State in OT. Rachel Banham scored 35, but fouled out in regulation. Carlie Wagner supplied the dagger in OT for the 90-88 win. This significantly improves their NCAA hopes.

There strength is their weakness however. They have the top scoring tandem in the nation in Banham and Wagner. The problem is that nobody else really picks up the slack. Those two combined for 61 of the 90 points. Nobody else cracked double figures.

Depends on how your roster is constructed. The Gophers have a major issue to overcome with the absolute lack of an inside game. Especially on defense. They have to win scoring marathons as a result. That is hard to do with only 2 players scoring in double digits.

It's a shame she never got a chance to show it in the NCAA. It's an even bigger shame that there is no way for the Lynx to get her in the draft.

The game between the Gophers and USD will be a very good game. USD should be in the tournament but it required them to beat SDSU 3 times this season. Unfortunately, the 3rd win would have come in the Summit league tournament.

Why can't they trade up?

Banham will likely go in the top 3 picks and the Lynx don't even have a 1st round pick. To trade up they would have to part with either Maya Moore or Sylvia Fowles and that just isn't going to happen. Whalen, Brunson and Augustus are too old to be attractive to a team picking at #3.

Rachel Banham scores 37 in a career ending loss. She passed Maya Moore to finish 6th all time in NCAA scoring. Too bad. Her career deserved a better ending.

Banham named 1st team All-America

Been a while since the boys have had one of those.

1997

Which really doesn't exist, but it did, for Bobby Jackson.

Pretty cool ...

Minnesota's Rachel Banham just edged Georgia Tech's Adam Smith in the head-to-head of men's and women's shootout champs.

The women are off to a good start in the post Banham era. Kenisha Bell has proven to be a great addition. Wagner is stepping up in a bigger scoring role. While they don't the star at the top this year, there is a lot more balance and a lot more team speed.

Northwestern women's basketball player Jordan Hankins was found dead in her room on campus Monday afternoon, the school said. The sophomore from Indianapolis was 19.

Evanston police are investigating, but the school said in a statement there was no evidence of foul play. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office says an autopsy is scheduled Tuesday and results would be available in the afternoon.

The Wildcats' game Wednesday at Minnesota has been canceled.
