ORIGINAL: djskillz I don't think the system is all that bad overall. Teams like the Rays/A's do just fine. And Houston will be good again soon, etc. Yes, there are "haves" and "have nots" but you can overcome a lot of that with smart decisions and talent evaluation. Unfortunately the Twins are a "have not" and have awful management. The league is built upon the large market venues. This is unlike the NFL, NBA or NHL that have very successful franchises in smaller market venues. MLB needs to clean itself up or will continue to have the same problems it currently has with decades-long teams that never make the playoffs. Really? Who would those teams be? Pittsburgh and Milwaukee are doing just fine. Tampa is doing just fine. Cincinnati, Kansas City, Baltimore; all doing fine these days. Seattle. The list goes on. Those are some of the very smallest markets in all of baseball. Heck, St. Louis is a comparable market to the Twins and they're the 2nd most successful franchise in the history of the sport. Small sample size. Entirely an aberration. Most seasons, San Fran, an LA team, Skankees, Boston, Philly, etc., are in the playoffs. It will adjust to the norm as it always does. Ridiculous to say that the teams you listed are "doing just fine". For some of those teams, the first time in twenty years or more.
