Zito's been only hitting mid to high 80's too in Nashville too, Ed. Don't really see him doing anything again at the major league level. He's a guy I'll always root for though.

Dozer/Donaldson neck/neck on most XBH in the bigs.

Donaldson hitting well over .300

Dozier not even .260

Donaldson's a flat-out stud. Should have gotten a lot more love for MVP consideration last year. Dozier and Plouffe both have arguments, but Donaldson may be the most unheralded/underrated player in all of baseball. He went from Oakland to the bandbox of Toronto so that's a big part of it, but I'm sure Beane's regretting that deal so far.

TX has won 8 of 10

Helped with the return of Hamilton. I'm rooting for him to have success w/o the trappings of it.

Yep. Obviously ultimately the blame lies in him, but I don't really get the Angels' approach with him. You signed him to this deal KNOWING full well this could happen, and yet with the first blowup, you cut bait, and in that method? And you didn't set up a support system for him, in Orange County? Really? Getting cocaine in Orange County (or LA) is only slightly harder than getting Starbucks. What did you think would happen?

On the flip side, I will say that I've heard he was not the greatest Angel teammate. But I agree, I'm rooting for him as well. Prodigal son story.

Wow

SUNDAY: Dahl will undergo surgery on Monday to have his spleen removed, according to tweets from his agents at Sosnick Cobbe Karon. Dahl chose the procedure in the hopes that he’ll be able to return to action this season, though a splenectomy “also brings other challenges,” as SCK’s tweet notes. Charlie Drysdale of the Purple Row blog details a few of the longer-term health issues that Dahl could face in the wake of his operation, though with such a severely-damaged spleen, it’s also possible Dahl may not have been able to continue playing baseball whatsoever.

Wow, hadn't realized what a prima Donna Donaldson is, tho.
The histrionics of every pitch, every at-bat .....
Just a highly unlikable opponent.
Lots of them suddenly in that Jays squad. Spent tons of time on their silly cellys and orchestrated forearm bashes.
Some seem more concerned about their stats than the score.

Was thinking today .... Doziers the best .250 hitter I can remember.
Timely
Xb potential with every swing
Combined with the speed out of the box, just a guy who cannot be judged by the BA.

No one can, IMO. He does have a .325 OBP. Certainly not good, but hopefully he can keep the SLG up and get to around .350 later in the year. Was at .345 last season. Very patient hitter overall.

Ya, I hear ya, man. I don't like the Jays at all; I'm sure has nothing to do with Mark Buehrle being on the squad...

Only guy I really root for on them is RA.

That was sooooo painful Friday night.
You know he was laughing his ass off at us during and after.
He has a sneer on for us that he lacks for others.
Someone here bothers him. Badly.
Was so hoping we were bashing him out in the first that night. Instead he got the final laugh.

Eh:

1) He has to play half the year in Canada.
2) We won the series against his bitch ass.
3) He's going to continue to win nothing that matters as a Jay.
4) He's going to have a rude awakening as a FA next season IMO.
5) Did I mention he's got to play half the year in Canada?
6) He's still a bitch.

Yep, although probably not breaking his either. As Ed mentioned, that "3rd Upton" that's baseball related is pretty special...

I don't mind Toronto, Matt, but the point on Canada remains.

Agree, Ed. And he wouldn't help us at all and is being paid $20M this year. $20M! He'd be our 5th best starter.

If we are in this race, I want Price (difficult being that it's Detroit) or Hamels.

Just FYI on what I found for CERA

Baseball Prospectus writer Keith Woolner found through statistical analysis of catcher performance that "catcher game-calling isn't a statistically significant skill".[2] Sabermetrician Bill James, too, performed research into CERA, finding that while it is possible that catchers may have a significant effect on a pitching staff, there is too much yearly variation in CERA for it to be a reliable indicator of ability.[1] James used simulations of catchers with assigned defensive values to directly compare CERAs, which influenced Woolner to perform similar simulations but instead using weighted events to calculate pitchers' runs per plate appearance.[1] Through this, Woolner concluded that even if catchers do have an effect on pitchers' abilities to prevent runs, it is undetectable and thus has no practical usage.[1] He also stated that "the hypothesis most consistent with the available facts appears to be that catchers do not have a significant effect on pitcher performance".[1]

Btw ... What's up with that ump crew and their distaste for us?
The strike zone was almost as bad as it was that famous night in Detroit.
Guccioni seems to have a breadstick sideways about us for some reason.

Oh, and ... Kurkijan just put an end to the fun.
Says the numbers mean the Twins will soon be irrelevant again.
The other four teams n our division are simply too good for us to beat.
So we have that going for us, which, ya know, sucks.

I say we show up and see what happens.

Well, they are playing Boston IN Boston, so yeah, they'll naturally get their asses handed to them.

That's how baseball is played out there. You bow down and get it handed to you.

Yo Timmy K

Per @sfgwire, top 5 May run differentials:

1. #Giants 40
2. #MNTwins 35
3. #Dodgers 29
T4 #Cardinals 23
#Indians 23

#MNTwins were T6 with #Orioles for fewest runs allowed (104) in May (per @sfgwire):

1. LAD 86
2. TB 93
3. STL 94
4. KC 101
5. PIT 103

Agree. Let 'em play and see if you're right or not.

Numbers, sigh.

Maybe one of these years they'll get their way, and we can do away with actually playing the games.
Just sit around and "fantasy league" it.
