Those who watched gooden/strawberry 30/30, and thought Doc looked bad...

Darryl Strawberry doubled down on his concern for former Mets teammate Doc Gooden on Sunday.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Strawberry said Gooden is dealing with a cocaine problem, and called him “a complete junkie-addict.” He also revealed that he is trying to help Gooden, as someone who has coped with addiction in the past.

“I have to try something before he’s dead,” Strawberry said.

Strawberry expressed concern over Gooden’s well-being earlier in the week after Gooden did not show up for a radio appearance.

Here’s what Strawberry told the Daily News in his interview Sunday:

I’ve been trying behind the scenes to talk to him and get him to go for help, but he won’t listen. He thinks he can manipulate and BS his way through everything. His son called me to beg me to help his dad before he dies. The condition Doc is in, it’s bad, it’s horrible. It’s like cocaine poison. I feel like I’ve got to get it out there because nobody else is doing anything to help him, and it might be the only way to stop him.

There were also some more concerning reports in the story about Gooden’s cocaine use from those close to him.

Gooden's son, Dwight Gooden Jr., also released a statement on behalf his family, thanking Strawberry and others.

Billy Butler missed the Athletics’ last two games due to injuries suffered in a clubhouse altercation with teammate Danny Valencia on Friday night, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. A’s manager Bob Melvin said Butler was absent due to nausea and vomiting, and neither Melvin or Valencia was willing to comment about the alleged incident. As Slusser writes, “no one in the Oakland clubhouse would discuss the matter on the record, but no one denied that it occurred, either.”

In an update to her original story, Slusser reports that the dispute between Butler and Valencia stemmed from Butler informing “an equipment representative that Valencia had not, in fact, been wearing the spikes that Valencia had told the representative that he was using.”

Huh? So does this mean Valencia was using illegal spikes? Can't imagine why else Butler would even care, or why Valencia would get so pissed that Butler said something!?!

Val was supposedly using spikes he's not endorsing. Probably brand Butler is, and Butler got pissed.

Something to snipe about as veterans, when your team sucks and is out of the race, at this time of the year.

LAME! I'd cut both of them on the spot.

Time for Rays to consider trading veteran 3B Longoria

http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/tampa-bay-rays-evan-longoria-trade-rumors-hot-stove-third-baseman-121715

The main question is whether Longoria will maintain the fairly low-grade decline he's shown so far, or whether at some point, he'll crater. If the former, Longoria could still cobble together a case for the Hall of Fame, and would be a tremendous bargain over the remaining life of his contract with the Rays --€“ his deal stretches seven more seasons (plus a club option) for at least $105.5 million. If the latter, he'll soon become an albatross around whom the small-market Rays can't build a winner.

In fact, it might be better for Tampa Bay's front office not to wait and see which way things break. According to owner Stuart Sternberg, the Rays are in tough financial shape, and absolutely can't stretch the payroll beyond its current $70 million projection. Owners have a long history of falsely crying poor, and the more credible the case an owner has, the more empowered he often feels to overstate the problem. Sternberg's track record isn't Jeffrey Loria's, though, and the truth is that the Rays do seem strapped for cash.

I'd like to hear from Evan what exactly he is doing differently this season at the plate?

Difficult to be too angry, but wouldn't make me happy either. Feast or famine to the extreme.

64 RBI on those 32 HR's.

Does it bother you when there are more things to look at when you are at the plate?

Just seems so strange when guys are so much better with nobody on. Of course, it really is a "me" moment.

Dirty Sanchez is at it again.

How good does this kid look early?

He's no Hicks or Buxton, but he seems to fit as a Yankee.

Obviously I'm biased, but 23 hits, 7 Home Runs in 17 games. Hitting Righties too.

He just has the look of a Yankee, to me.

Perhaps finally a long term replacement for one of the most underrated, recent Yankees ever....Jorge Posada.

His struggles on the diamond paled in comparison with his real-life struggles. Dude was tough as nails, mentally and physically.

I remember a young Posada giving a young Jeter shit for wearing batting gloves.

Add a couple more hits and another HR.

Updated because I care.

8 August HR's for the 23 year old. The "dirty" bastard did strike out 14 times though.
Probably time to fire Cockrell.

When the Twins got Murphy in that trade, I was bumming. I was hoping they could get a deal for Sanchez.

Cashman's got another keeper. Twins have zip.

The Rangers have activated outfielder Josh Hamilton from the 60-day disabled list and placed him on unconditional release waivers, the team announced on Tuesday.

Hamilton played in just 50 games for the Rangers last year, hitting .252 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs. He underwent surgery on his left knee after the season and had another operation in June, ending his 2016 season before he could even make it on the field.

The veteran said in July that he expects to be ready for the start of spring training next season.

Because the 35-year-old has a year and $28 million remaining on his contract, he will likely go unclaimed and become a free agent. The Angels are on the hook for $26.41 million.

The Orioles will likely place top starter Chris Tillman on the disabled list due to discomfort in his right shoulder, manager Buck Showalter revealed to reporters following tonight’s win over the Nationals (Twitter link via Rich Dubroff of CSN Mid Atlantic). Earlier this afternoon, MASNsports.com’s Roch Kubatko wrote that Showalter gave an ominous message regarding Tillman, stating that the right-hander “did not have a good work day today” following a bullpen session that “did not go well.” The O’s are hopeful that because they’re able to backdate the DL trip to three days ago, Tillman will be able to be activated as soon as he is eligible, tweets Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun.

The Dodgers announced that they’ve placed left-handers Scott Kazmir and Brett Anderson on the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Josh Fields to Triple-A Oklahoma City. In a series of corresponding moves, the team has recalled infielder Charlie Culberson, left-hander Luis Avilan and right-hander Ross Stripling from Triple-A.

The Atlanta Braves have traded veteran outfielder Jeff Francoeur to the Miami Marlins in three-way deal that includes the Texas Rangers.

The Braves get minor league infielder Dylan Moore from the Rangers and minor league catcher Matt Foley from the Marlins, while also sending cash considerations to Miami, Atlanta said in a news release.

Any big league player traded after Aug. 1 has to be first put on waivers.

As part of the trade, the Braves will send the Marlins $104,959 to help offset Francoeur's contract. The Rangers obtained two international signing slots from Miami and one from Texas.
