Good to know the "Ron Davis Theory" still applies
Red Sox rookie Devers takes Chapmans 102 mph heater deep last night

My grandfather was a pretty good townball player in SW Minnesota back in the day. He used to always tell me a phrase from a teammate of his "The fasta you throw it, the harda they hit 'em."

I know you don't want to hear it SMF, but Devers and Benintendi are both going to be incredible players. Almost unfair to have Betts and Benintendi, 2 true 5-tool guys, in an OF together.

Not that the Yankees are lacking in young talent either.

As much as I love Kepler/Rosario, hopefully we have that ourselves in a few years with Buck and Lewis. The reality is that we'll lose Buxton in 2021 to Free Agency, and Lewis will still be in Ft. Myers by then.

Clippard is a guy I would have liked us to get. He's got his issues, but he'd immediately be our best relief pitcher. And has actual stuff. Would have only cost us about $1.5M for the balance of the year.

And we are definitely higher on the waiver list than Houston.

HAVE to find a bullpen arm or two to give us a chance down the stretch. Or, here's a crazy idea: let's give Gonsalves/Romero shots in relief in a couple of weeks.

I might be more concerned about our starters. We're 9-4 since the Kintzler trade. Bullpen has mostly held their own. Starters not so much. Colon has certainly helped though.

He's been unbelievable. Seems mad about getting knocked out of Home Run Derby.

He and Jameson Taillon both this year. Remarkable.

Explain to me why a team like the Yankees or Dodgers(who have unlimited $$$ to spend) wouldn't claim him?

Got to be a catch.

The only reason to claim him is to prevent someone else from getting him. Once he clears, the Skanks can negotiate right up until midnight on August 31. If they claim him, they have 48 hrs to close the deal or his team will just pull him back off waivers.

So you claim him and then you have to offer up players in a trade within 48hrs.

Now all teams can make offers until Aug. 31

He's also under contract for ELEVEN more seasons. For around $300M. If you claim him, you risk taking on the entire contract. I'm not sure there are any teams out there, even the Yankees, who want to take on that kind of risk.

Probably learned their lesson with ARod but this guy isn't a cheater and could help you add a few more trophies.

I think most Yankee fans would accept a couple World titles now and some penny pinching later.
