Gardy and Mient -- two birds of a feather!

Or perhaps Dougie knows he'll soon be on a list to replace ol' red face.

+1
That is my guess.

We are saddened by the tragic news that Roy Halladay, 2-time Cy Young Award winner & 8-time All-Star, has died in a plane crash. He was 40.

I don't get the fascination of these small-time pilots. I wouldn't get in one of those little planes for any amount of money. IMO the only people flying planes should be those that have made it their career. No amateurs. It's like asking a baseball player to be a murder trial attorney. Only worse, because you are putting the lives of others in the air and on the ground in danger.

My brother in law flew in the military for the Navy and later, served 25 years as a pilot for Delta. Flew primarily international flights. He had his own plane, a small Cessna. One time he was in Grand Forks visiting family and had to fly back to Northfield MN where he lived. Thunderstorm was between the two points. He flew down to Iowa to avoid the thunderstorm. He was overly cautious because he knew how dangerous it is to fly into weather, especially with a small plane.

Most people that have their own planes are not nearly as cautious as pilots who do this for their living and have logged thousands of hours.

This is a tough loss
He was one of the best in the 2000s
IMO he started the Kershaw-type domination, in our generation.
Only 40. Sure HOFer
Wish he had seen it happen.

Good article on fivethirtyeight showing that Halladay was the greatest pitcher of his generation:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/roy-halladay-was-the-greatest-pitcher-of-his-generation/

A few charts that won't copy and paste very well here, so go ahead and click on the link.

203 W 105 L Winning % = .659

https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/win_loss_perc_career.shtml

19th of all time list for pitchers with a minimum of 100 decisions.

And Toronto had some mediocre teams when he pitched for them.

Yes, but I expected it to be even better
He was The Man for a long time

Didn't seem to dominate us like he should have, but we had a way of doing that.
The fly-by-niters were the guys that killed us.

Daniel Flores, a 17-year-old catcher who signed with the Boston Red Sox in July when the international amateur signing window opened, died Wednesday due to complications stemming from cancer treatment, the team announced.

Maybe the talk-radio assholes in Boston can make cracks about that death, too.
Stay classy, Boston.

And now Gardenweasel added Steve Liddle to his coaching staff as his bench coach. He really is putting the band back together. I am a bit surprised to hear Anderson will be the bullpen coach instead of the pitching coach.

Not my problem as a Twins fan and am glad it's DET getting this; not sure how the youngsters are going to handle an intolerant manager and part of the staff that is lock-step in his beliefs over youthful exuberance and mistakes.

I would not be surprised if Miggy asks out or forces a trade.

Good thing Miggy has the Gardy nick-name already so red-face can't pin a new nickname on him.

Jays decline Jose Bautistas 2018 option
Pretty decent RH DH option.

"Don't need him. We have Sano at DH, pesky at 3rd now. Don't need a stinking bench".

I'll take McCutcheon or Joey Bats as a 4th OF over McSlappy and Grossman ANY day of the week.

Granite not in your circle of players I take it Ed?

Aaron Boone gets an interview for the Yanks job.
I like him.
Thomsen appears to be the leader in the clubhouse.
Already had his interview.
