One way to push Gardy closer to retirement would be...

Nyjer Morgan is close to a contract with an unknown Major League team, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports (Twitter link). Morgan recently switched agents and was exploring a return to the Majors, as Crasnick reported last week that six-to-eight teams had expressed interest in the outfielder. Morgan is represented by Jonathan Maurer of Team One and Millennium Sports.

The 33-year-old Morgan hit .294/.361/.434 with 11 homers in 424 PA with the Yokohama Bay Stars in 2013 and had also been fielding offers for another season in Japan. Perhaps best known for his "Tony Plush" alter ego and his role in helping the Brewers to the 2011 NL Central title, Morgan struggled in 2012 and was subsequently outrighted off MIlwaukee's 40-man roster following the season.

Bummed.

I wanted that guy to bring some REAL knucklehead stuff to the Twins, so Gardy can see what trouble looks like
up close and personal. The fits he has with a glove flip and throws to first would pale in comparison to what Morgan
would have brought to the team.

Kershaw’s extension reportedly is worth $215 million over seven years, with an out after five seasons.

Those numbers would exceed the seven-year, $180 million extension Justin Verlander signed with the Tigers last season.

Absolute Stupidity! I hope he sucks for the rest of his contract.

I just heard that driving home from work. A friend and I were talking about baseball contracts and he suggested there should be no guaranteed money beyond three years under any circumstance. A provision should be made in any contract where a team can exercise the right impose "merit pay" when terms such as Kershaw are laid out.

It's utterly insane what is going on right now.

Good for that dude.
He definitely needed that. Too young to be carrying that kind of baggage around.

Gotta be. ARod's last one would have averaged $30 if he hit all the inventives, I think, which he obviously didn't/won't.

MLB owners unanimously approved the new expanded replay system back in November, a system that will include two manager's challenges per game. The players' and umpires' unions still need to sign off on the system before it can be implemented, but that is expected to happen soon.

One of the biggest concerns about the new system was the "neighborhood play" at second base -- when infielders step on the area around the base but not the base itself while turning double plays. It happens a handful of times each game and it would be an easily challengeable call.

According to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports, the MLBPA has requested that the "neighborhood play" not be reviewable:

Manager can challenge flat-out missed catch -- Kozma at World Series -- but not timing of when player caught ball while coming across bag.

Beyond stupid. If it's a safety issue (like blocking the plate), then change the rule.
