Nice rebound tonight
Took control early and never let them up
Pretty sour post games after last night ... I think maybe they had had enough.

Big test coming up for the boys this Friday with MSU in the College Cup game. Hopefully I won't be watching them live in the afternoon game next Saturday. I would prefer they are playing in the championship game in the evening. The championship game could very well be a rematch of the Gophers vs Bulldogs again, provided they play up to their ability for a change. Of course UMD has to get past BSU, which is no easy task either. Any way you look at it, it should be 2 good hockey games whatever the match ups end up being.

Well I had the matchups right, but the Gophers and Bulldogs played for consolation...
Of course the Gophers couldn't put out enough effort to even walk away with 3rd place.
This team has hit rock bottom and appears to be going through the motions without any desire or effort at all.

My sadness is rapidly declining into apathy.

I don't care enough, at this point, to be apathetic.

You guys know a lot better than I do - are there enough young whippersnappers coming up to make us believe that next year will be better? Are there some skating right now that are just on the cusp of really having a complete game? If this year is lost we don't have to necessarily think that it'll be years before we're back at the top again, do we?

Sadly Lynn I see us down for, at least, 2 more years.  Wilcox is gone and I would bet so are Riley/Fasching and I don't have a lot of faith in the young guys.

Inside info
(That I'll deny later)
Five team leaders checked out early.
Only concern is their NHL future. No big scoop, just confirmed.

WHY did they check out early though? What changed from last year?

I think they somehow forgot about all the hard work it took to get them to the Frozen Four last year, and when things didn't come easily this season they just checked out. I actually wish Lucia would bench some of those guys not willing to put in an honest effort in favor of playing time for the young guys on the team.

Not making excuses, but I think the current schedule and conference commitments are TERRIBLE
There's always been the constant worry about picking the wrong guys and now it's been amplified.
Jeff touched on it and I think it's so true .... We are simply living off the rep that was earned by guys for a hundred years before these guys.
I've always started this argument, that Gopher hockey is Yankee baseball, Laker basketball, Patriot football.
You want to wear that sweater?
You
Have
No
Idea
What it takes. You will get everyone's best game every night. Only some players can handle that. And as with those iconic teams, if you start loading up with players who won't bleed for the jersey, you are in huge trouble.
That's been gradually happening with gopher hockey, anyway, and now, with the stupid conference changes, it's even worse. (The disconnect)
When I started coaching kids twenty five years ago, our routine was .... Get to the hotel early Friday night, so we could watch GOPHER HOCKEY.
It gradually lost steam. Right now, our kids couldn't name three Gophers. That signifies...... DEAD PROGRAM.
wrong recruits
Stupid conference changes
Terrible disjointed TV coverage
A million other options on teams to pull for
All these things and more.
Sounds like an old man whining, but I truly believe it's true. Times they have a changed and we haven't changed appropriately with them.

It's also dangerous to be "close" every year for a decade and not get over the hump.
The Twins kinda did that same thing.
It ends in disaster.

Well they got the win, but it was painful to watch. I ended up watching BSU instead and just checking in for scores. There seems to be internal upheaval on this team that we aren't privy to that is tearing the team apart. Just may have to check out for the season and just watch from afar and hope they can right the ship.

Wilcox is not right this year. I don't know what it is though. He's letting in way too many softies.

Like I read on the GPL site, the combo of a big head and one foot out the door isn't working too well for him this year.

About to start period 2, 1-1. We played "Ok" that period but need to dominate.

2-1 after 2. Settled in a bit. A 5 minute PP when Connor Riley got "Matt Cooked" helped for sure. Need to finish this out. If, for nothing else, to just get more confidence back.

I was doing something else but occasionally would look in to do a score check and it seemed like we were always on the penalty kill. Good grief - how many penalties did we commit? Did they ever put a Badger in the penalty box?

And I tuned back in in time to see the shoot out. Yep, we suck at it. What a disappointment. Hockey is the only sport that we have a chance these days of besting the Badgers and we can't even get that right.

Well, that's three hours off my life that I'll never get back.
F-ing pathetic.
And Bucky? They're 2-16.
2 and 16
That's 2 wins and 16 losses.
And yet they STILLL strut around like they are king shit on turd hill.
Where do you get THAT kind of arrogance?

And we lose to them.
Oh ... wait .... sorry .... didn't LOSE, we ummm, tied them
And gave up goals to them like they were parade candy.

Absolutely pathetic.
Wilcox should have his scholarship revoked and the rest of them should too.
Very few deserve to wear those sweaters.

I agree! So much was made out of the big 5 coming back for another run at the title, and look what they brought to the table. No effort at all!! We are so good all we have to do is show up and it is ours attitude. Wilcox really needs a weekend on the bench. Bucky has scored 40% of their goals for the year on him alone. There is no excuse for losing to this Badger team other than we suck as bad as they do! I can't even sit through a whole game any more without looking for something else to watch.

Make a statement last night
I don't care WHO is the backup, you pull Wilcox

Either the inmates are running the asylum, or the guards don't give a shit.
Because right now, all they do is sleepwalk on to the ice, and sleepwalk off.
There is a TRADITION here that is being tarnished DAILY by this bunch.
