The team apparently does think in terms of complementing their first string offensive playmakers. (ie Mattison)

I always like to think that the bottom of the roster needs to find a role with special teams. That could be the determining factor with the receivers. I do like quickness more than speed when it comes to a punt returner. Sometimes a receiver can be a really good tackler- maybe even a gunner.

He probably thinks this is a make or break time. I am open to these players. I mean, I don't have to formulate my opinions yet. It's interesting to hear what others think, though.

So ... if you are going to base it on stats –

Treadwell, Beebe, Zylstra, Johnson, Mitchell, Badet are more qualified?

Not really.

It's gonna be Thielen/Diggs/Mitchell/Badet/Bebe/Johnson

Drop Badet to last in that group and I think you got it just right.

I like that group quite a bit. Quite an athletic WR room there.

Kinda sad how Todd drops Treadwell completely off the team and nobody bats an eye, but true indeed.

Not to be contrarian, but Taylor has been taking 1st team reps. P Manning was impressed with him (before injuries) and as Zimmer pointed out, has history with G Kubiak. Cousins has already been singing his praises.

I would include a 7th or 6th to trade Treadwell and free up 1.8M in cap space. Cap space is so much more valuable to us at this point and we already are slated to have 10 draft picks next.

Its so early, projections are meaningless at this point. But I'll make mine:

Digg/Thielan/Taylor/Beebe/Badet. Zystra/Johnson/Mitchell battle for that 6th spot.

I agree. If Taylor stays healthy - there is no way he’s not the 3rd or 4th guy (and backup or punt returner). Same with Beebe.

Not sure Badet is well-rounded enough but if nothing else he’s Robinson II and we did protect him from being swiped by the Jets. For what little that is worth.

5 WRs (thiels, diggs, taylor, beebe, badet) zylstra if we keep 6 / johnson on practice squad.
(I think well-rounded Johnson is a darknorse to bump one trick pony badet and stiff zylstra)

4 TEs (rudy, smith, morgan, conklin)
I think if te Hikutini has improved enough as a blocker, he may just bump Conklin)

I include Badet just because he adds an element that no other WR on our team does. Pure speed (Much faster than Robinson). Williamson proved you need more than that, but if Badet has hands and can run the route tree, it would add great value. Plus, if I remember right Badet had offers to sign a future/practice squad contract with another team.

EDIT: I missed the Jets part of your post. I do think it means something.

I don't know enough about Hikutini. I'm good if either develops into a serviceable player. Need one of them to step up with Morgan and Rudy in contract years.

You would have to presume we thought Badet could be more than Robinson (and both better than a useless track athlete like Williamson) – otherwise, why not just keep Robinson (yeah we're cap strapped but he seems like an easy cap finagle).

Atleast I hope so.

Yeah, I guess Badet cleaning up the bottom sounds about right.

Very Euro of you.

Extremely underrated post. If Beebe and Badet shared bottom-cleaning duties it would be even better.

Well played, sir.

I think losing Robinson, is another small mistake like Jarius Wright, Cordarralle Patterson, etc ....

I predict it will be:

Thielen/Diggs/Johnson/Beebe/Mitchell/Taylor

I would prefer Mitchell at #3, but Johnson beats him out this year, based on work ethic.

Work ethic might even put Beebe ahead of Mitchell, we'll see. But I think on talent, Mitchell will be #3 in 2020, sometimes it just takes a little time.

And that was one of the strengths of Mattison. I forget, but I think he only fumbled once or twice and he carried the rock like 30 times a game. That's an underrated quality, I think.

Pretty similar to another guy we're acquainted with, minus injury in yr 4.

This only makes sense on passing downs, but it does make sense.

I'm really behind this guy. Didn't fumble or drop a pass his last year. 2 in near 600 carries. I think AD had 2 fumbles 6 carries into a game before.

Maybe the speed thing (Robinson vs Badet) isn't as pronounced as I thought.

A Robinson listed at 4.43 speed, although at 30, he might be a step slower. Badet, 4.27.

Take Badet's 40 time with a grain of salt. It was not from the combine. Pro day 40s are almost always a tenth of a second better than combine 40s. if he truly is a 4.27 guy that makes him possibly the fastest player in the NFL.
I would adjust his time to 4.37 which is still incredibly fast.

I think the WR depth is better viewed with four trees rather than one long one.

WR1: Thielen, Beebe
WR2: Diggs, Zylstra
WR3: Taylor
WR4: Badet

Obviously Diggs moves to 1 if Thielen is out although that might be semantics as our 1 and 2 seem interchangable. My point is that Badet is a perfect fit for WR4 in the sense that he is first in line to play the 4th WR in a formation. That doesn't mean he's the fourth best or would take over the #2 spot of there were a couple of injuries.

Mitchell is the third best WR on the Vikings.

Cousins is bragging him up. That could go a long way towards him making the team otherwise I think you are correct Rat.

You are making it almost impossible to root for Mitchell.

Can you dial it back just a little?

Nope. I'm just telling it like it is. I have seen all the other bums competing for the spot and they are not on his level.

I was just using the same WRs from the post prior. The point was to differentiate from the best WR4 and the fourth best WR.

KG you know that YouTube didn't show you how good Diggs and Thielen were going to be....so why do you think it tells you about Mitchell, who is a 7th round pick? I hope they all over perform and catch on with another team and we keep the best.....Beebe showed me a ton last year and no matter what Thielen and Diggs will get 60 % of the targets.
