Minnesota Vikings
@Vikings
“I’m happy to be here. It’s a beautiful area...the Minnesota Vikings, a lot of Norwegian history”. -
@KaareVedvik

Sean Borman@SeanBormanNFL
Mike Zimmer said on KFAN that the #Vikings “have had problems with the holding” before reaffirming how much he likes Dan Bailey. He said it might be tough having a rookie at multiple special teams positions.

Zimmer consulted with ex Ravens STC Jerry Rosburg before Vikings traded for Vedvik. He asked him, “what is he? Kicker? Punter?”

“Good friend of mine, he said (Vedvik) is an NFL talent.”

So they’ll sort it out. Can he do both? “Sure, if he’s good enough.” .. added it’d be hard

Vidvik sounds like his place kicking was a bit erratic in college.

It almost seems like we are searching for a holder more than anything.

Guess he had a good PS game and it peaked every ones interest.

I was curious as to why he wasn't competeing for P duties at Balt and seen this

Ravens, punter Sam Koch agree to 5-year, $16.25 million deal

I heard something about how Koch is an elite holder. That's an incredibly tough job in my mind. You have so little time to get that ball down just right and the ball comes in at different angles.

Sorry that I can't link these any other way. Maybe you have to have a Twitter account to see it. Anyway here is a video clip of Elflien looking good in last Friday night's game.

The Vikings are being extremely careful with Mike Hughes, who could be their No. 3 corner this year and the ideal Plan B that allows Trae Waynes to walk after this season. But Hughes, who is coming off multiple torn ligaments including an ACL, looks close to being able to return. Still on the physically-unable-to-perform list, he spent Monday’s practice working more aggressively than he has all camp with athletic trainers off to the side. During one drill, he hopped up steps, two at a time, without wearing his knee brace.

Peanuts compared to their kicker.

On April 24, 2019, Tucker signed a four-year, $23.05 million contract extension with $12 million guaranteed, keeping him under contract through the 2023 season

And their Kicker is a multiple 1st Team All-Pro, as recently as last year. So V wasn't going to kick.

Albeit we don’t know yet how special teams will look on the opener, I’m happy to see the team being proactive rather than reactive in regards to the roster. Even though Priefer assured us that he’d looked over ‘all of Dan Bailey ‘s kicks’ I much prefer starting fresh with a young guy. It’s a chance for the team to correct the Carlson mess.

One thing is if we can't cover kickoffs, we better get someone who can boom it out of the EZ.

I have no reason to believe kick coverage will be a problem. I’d be much more concerned if we’d had a punt blocked in four consecutive games spanning playoffs and preseason.

When the real bullets started flying Carlson’s eyes bugged out of his head.

His lack of experience absolutely killed us in Green Bay.

Carlson had a stellar preseason for us much like this kid has for the Ravens.

I’m not sure we are the right fit for a young kicker trying to figure it out in a playoff race.

Carlson wasn’t either.

At least we know this young kicker knows how to put on a uniform.

All indications are that Vedvik improved dramatically since getting NFL coaching last year and this year. I wouldn't worry about what he did in college at this point.

Meh, outkicked the coverage.

Barely. The coverage got there a millisecond too late.

I didn't get the impression that David was selling anything. You are, and even if it's the best deal in the world, is this really the place to do that?

I say, don't sell shit in here. Slippery slope.

BTW, good to see you back. I was hopeful you might have some Viking knowledge/opinion to share. Be better.

vedvik doesn't put a lot of energy into his kicks - he goes through the motions, makes good contact and the natural strength from his size does the rest...he's 6'-3" and 210....

he kicked field goals from 60 & 61 yards in practice yesterday....

Vedvik from 61 yards out with the holder kicking tee. Nailed a 60 yarder right before this.

Vedvik also practiced some kickoffs and was booming them out of the end zone with no chance of a return. His leg strength is through the roof!

we have zero dead money with both bailey and wile....

"Not sure yet. ... Give me a week?"
The #Vikings still aren't certain what exactly new acquisition Kaare Vedvik will do for them. But the new training camp mystery of the guy who can kick and punt remains intriguing. From @ChadGraff

I’m ok with a risk if your ‘normal approach’ is not working. We will have a better idea once we get over the novelty of a two way kicker.

The biggest risk with Vedvik is how he’ll do under pressure ... which is more important than the difference between being solid or booming in FGs/Punts.

He’s so laconic when he strikes the ball, I’m hoping he has a little norwegian stoicism to him.

The other thing is, there’s a lot of dudes a half a step away from him during his preseason attempts. How composed will he be (and Zimmer) after you get one blocked?

Can we ever do anything straight up and easy?

Also, I could care less about a 5th pick ... throw 3 more 5th round picks at the problem until you find the right solution.

I do like the current mindset of the team, it does take a stab at things to proactively get better.

Still, 12 bazillion QBs, kickers, punters, and holders during the Zimmer era, and counting. Thats a lot of stabs.

At the very least bring back our accurate kicker from 2 years ago and let the new guy punt and kick off...

In 2011, Vedvik landed at McPherson High School in Kansas. After watching Vedvik launch an 80-yard kickoff, coaches moved him up to varsity midway through the season.

Every weekend, Vedvik spent between two and six hours a day alone on a field with a camera so he could teach himself how to kick. He tweaked little things, and in a half year's time, he went from kicking 44-yarders to 64-yarders. He could even do it both right and left-footed.

Ravens Special Teams Coordinator Jerry Rosburg heard about Vedvik and put him through a private workout at Marshall. He could immediately tell he had special talent, using his 6-foot-3 angular frame to deliver leverage and power. But Vedvik’s personality also stood out.

“He has the traits, in my view.” Rosburg said. “He’s talented; you can’t do it without talent. He’s got great character and work ethic. And he has a burning desire to play in this league, and he will.”

Let's consider Vedvik a 6th round pick this year. Together with Cutting we improved our snapping, kicking, and punting with a 6th and a 7th round pick. Only wish he could hold, but can't kick and hold your own . I got it. Drop kicks. Sorted.

We know what it's like here to fail to win big games when our kicker misses. Special teams in general are underrated, I believe.

Anyway, here's another article that's hard to argue with.
