The Vikings’ offensive line today:
1st team: Reiff-Dozier-Bradbury-Elflein-O’Neill
2nd team: Hill-Cleveland-Jones-Samia-Udoh
3rd team: Brandel-Collins-Lacina-Hinton-Aiello

(Chad Graf on Twitter)

elflein on the right side...let's see if samia can push him out....

They should let the two of them fight for the position. Samia would win it easy.

History says the only way Elflein loses that starting spot is if he gets injured. Zimmer isn't big on competition for starting spots. Maybe this time it will be different.

Yes, I'm sure that Zimmer is calling the shots on who starts where on the OL.

Cameron Dantzler got a crack with the first-team corners with Mike Hughes kicking inside. Keep in mind, though, Jeff Gladney was inactive.

we are going to be very deep with solid young cb's over the next couple of seasons....

Speaking of photos, here is one of Mike Boone. The dude has been working out big time.

His shoulders look like implants! That's what a good training program can do for you.

Hopefully it translates to the football field

Fred Cox attempted just 24 FGs of 50 yards or more in his NFL career, and made only 2. Here is a 51 yarder that was no good in 1969 vs the Cardinals. With less amount of the foot on a ball as compared to soccer-style kickers, conventional kickers had little margin for error.

Unless you were kicking with half of a foot.

I saw that live (on TV). Anyone else?

Yeah. I saw every game in those days. I would often stand in front of the tv and block the viewing for my dad. He would say sit down and I would say that I couldn't sit because I was so excited.

Best defense after halftime(7th best in 1st half). I thought Zimmer was slow to adjust and stubborn.

Yeah. I moved over so he could see.

Just wondering this morning if Elflein will do better on the right side. He played there in college and maybe he's better suited there. I don't know.

Dantzler seems to have some arm muscle though.

But dang! Gladney's arms are long!

Very nice video here. Who stands out for you?

https://twitter.com/sosarick/status/1294624214822146048?s=20

Dan Chisena (who?) pushing Dantzler to the ground? Then
Couisins with the long bomb to Dan Chisena (who?)

https://www.vikings.com/news/dan-chisena-vikings-ufda-speed-to-burn#:~:text=Vikings%20UDFA%20WR%20Dan%20Chisena%20Has%20Speed%20to%20Burn&text=%22I%20think%20my%20speed%20is,a%20handful%20of%20draft%20websites.

And it's likely that most Vikings fans wouldn't recognize Dan Chisena if he passed them on the street.

But the former Penn State wide receiver — and track star — now might hold the title of being the fastest player on Minnesota's roster. Even if he admits he is a work in progress on the gridiron.

"I think my speed is just a God-given ability that I've had all my life," said Chisena, who was clocked at a blazing 4.32 seconds in the 40-yard dash by a handful of draft websites. "It was great with track, and obviously in football you can't just be fast. You need to be a complete player in order to play at the highest level, so that's a good asset to have, but I need to continue to develop in other areas of the game.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity," Chisena added. "I think my speed is something that was able to catch the eyes of some coaches, particularly on special teams, being able to make an impact in that area of the game while continuing to develop as a wide receiver."

Is it just me or are the Vikings showing an affinity for Oklahoma U players? Parker is 6'2". That's good height and he has starting experience. I'm trying to figure out why he was released so early by the Dolphins, though.

I did find this article that explains a bit.

▪ Contract status: Due $585,000 next season in the final year of his contract, then will become exclusive rights free agent.

▪ The metrics: Played 339 snaps and allowed seven of 10 passes in his coverage area to be caught for 100 yards, with three touchdowns and two acrobatic interceptions, equating to a 102.1 rating in his coverage area. His run defense grades were third among Dolphins safeties, per PFF (behind Jones and Walt Aikens).

▪ The future: Parker started the third and fourth games of the season but just twice more the rest of the way. Coaches wanted more consistency, but the athletic interceptions and run game metrics show there’s something to work with here. Should compete for a backup safety job in camp.

I like it. He has a good chance to make the team.

So young in the secondary this year... ughhh

When Trae Waynes was your best cover corner, perhaps we’re not destined for too much of a drop off at all?

Love the potential in that picture (Gladney, Dantzler, and even Boyd not to mention Hughes and Hill)

We will be starting 3 new CBs counting slot. They will all be very young and possibly 2 of them rookies.
I expect our pass defense to be better this year than last.

Most fans would not be able to pick him out in a two man lineup with the other guy being Santa Claus.

The Vikings parted ways with Brady Aiello yesterday. I needed to refresh my memory on who he was. I found this:

Aiello's backstory is interesting because he wasn't even a full-time starter last season, yet the Vikings still thought highly enough of his potential to give him $45,000 guaranteed. That was the fourth-most guaranteed money among their 12 UDFAs signings. The reason why Aiello wasn't a full-time starter was that he played on the best offensive line in the nation at Oregon. Two of their five starters (Shane Lemieux and Jake Hanson) were drafted this year, another one (Calvin Throckmorton) was signed as a UDFA, and left tackle Penei Sewell is a surefire top-five pick in 2021.

Said it at the time, but after watching all of the WRs who performed at the Combine, there wasn’t one that impressed me more in person than Justin Jefferson.

Smooth as silk as a route runner, terrific hands and makes playing the position look easy.

Jordan Reid on Twitter

Here are notes he took at the combine:

#CombineNotes:

4. The prospect that surprised me the most watching them live was #LSU WR Justin Jefferson. Many questioned his speed, but running a 4.43 was huge for him. His routes were outstanding and his hands are very, very strong.

Could be a 1st-round pick.

I initially had Mims and Reagor above Jefferson on my personal draft board. I was more or less just considering Jefferson a product of the system. After we drafted him and looking at things more closely Jefferson made Burrow just as much as Burrow made Jefferson. I'm strongly convinced we made the right choice and got a bit lucky that he was available.

I keep getting back to the point that it feels like a parallel to Moss who had a veteran star to mentor him how to play the game right. This time it is with Thielen. I have been cautioned not to compare Jefferson with Moss. I say he's going to be more comparable with Cris Carter, but that the duo will be dynamic. I may be guilty of being a bit over optimistic, though. That's how I roll.

He's much faster than Carter, but Carter was bigger. Carter was also a stone cold killer. However, if we're going to compare him to someone Carter is a pretty good one.

I don't believe that Carter had too many reps as a slot receiver, but where they compare is that they both catch virtually everything thrown their way.

I mentioned this before that some o-linemen struggle when they go from one side to the other. I'm wondering if he will do better back where he played well in college. I found this on Twitter from Courtney Cronin:

Gary Kubiak on moving Pat Elflein to right guard, where he started 25 games as a soph/junior at Ohio State: "We just took a look at it this offseason. That’s somewhere that Pat has had a comfort zone before in his football life. We talked about that and obviously we got competition going for the other guard, however we end up right there. But just a decision made through some talking through the process, talking to Pat. Talking about how we were going to get started once we came back."
