There's a development with the Vikings now, but I'm still upset, so somebody else report it.

That the Yannick Ngakoue trade is official?

Has to do with o-line.

Reiff reporting that he expects to be cut. He'll find a team.

KJ got it. Reiff told his teammates that he will be cut. Here is a tweet from Matthew Coller:

Hearing from a source that if/when Riley Reiff gets cut (which appears imminent at this point) that Rashod Hill is more likely to take over right tackle than Oli Udoh
That makes sense. Hill has been consistently solid in the swing tackle role

I say Hill is a better LT than RT and O'Neill has established himself very nicely at RT. Why not keep him there? Otherwise, Udoh is strictly a RT, so if Udoh comes in for an injury to Hill, then O'Neill must practice now at LT just in case.

Ah.

By your tone, I thought it was something new that we hadn't already been discussing.

The point is that Reiff is refusing the pay cut by his own words. Before there was only speculation that he could also remain with less pay. I suppose that Reiff could sleep on it and change his mind overnight so it's not official yet. Sounds like he has decided to me, though.

I remember 250 lb DE Lance Johnstone. He was actually pretty decent against the run, but he was only a part time player. Once your legs start to fade, you feel those big guys leaning on you a bit more.

Wasn't it Demetrius Underwood who came in to camp in camouflage ready to go to war and he lasted 2 days? I swear I was having trouble remembering his name and for a moment I really thought it was Driftwood. I'm making myself laugh right now just thinking about him. Not sure if anybody else will appreciate my reminiscing.

The offensive line maneuverings have me quite worried as does the interior of the D line.

Chris Tomasson@christomasson
Pro Football Talk reports #Vikings guard Riley Reiff has told teammates that he expects to be cut. That would clear $8.8 million in salary-cap room for the Vikings and would leave them with $4.4 million in dead money. Would make Brian O'Neill likely starting left tackle.

I stand corrected. We don't know that O'Neill will start at LT though just from him practicing there.

I wonder what it's going to look like in 2 weeks. I think there will be a number of teams that just aren't ready and could make for some bad football.

I guess I don't care if a lot of it is shitty as long as we're respectful.

Whatever happened to Art?

Didn’t he drop from the board as a protest against the signings of Reiff / Remmers?

At the very least he was outraged.

I thought it was over Case Keenum.

Forgot about that ... you're probably right

along with Big O's point about general board attitude.

I think he was almost as upset with us dumping Case as he was with our signing Favre.

We've obviously never had an off season like this one, no rookie camp, OTA's, shortened camp, minimal padded practices, etc.. There isn't much chance a rookie offensive lineman comes in and plays with all those team activities in place, much less not having any. I'd love for it to be different, but we don't have a choice this year.

Reiff has always been an average LT, but he is getting paid like a top ten guy, maybe it was a bad contract on our part, or maybe they were hoping for better things from him, but he's just a little bit better than Hill at that spot, so really, the drop off isn't terrible.

If they move O'Neil to to the LT spot, a position he has experience from school, then Udho would be my guess at RT. Hill just plays a much better LT, it seems to be his natural position. Ezra can get some reps in as the season goes along, but when we drafted him everone knew he'd need at least a year in an NFL weight training program, he simply isn't ready as none of the rookies drafted this year will be.

We should go with Dozier at LG and Elf at RG. It certainly isn't ideal, but nobody else has stepped up and those of us that were hoping Samia would come in ready to claim a spot, should be very disappointed in that non-development! Lets be honest, most of us thought Elf was going to be a solid lineman when we picked him, just like many here scratched their heads when we took O'Neil. We we jumping up and down at the selection of Bradbury and most of us thought Samia was going to be solid after a year of watching and growing. We were all pretty excited about Ezra and if you look at the oline it's young and full of promise that all hasn't been realized just yet.

I really like the move of Elf to RG, it happens to be his best position and gives him a last chance to prove he can play in this league. Let's be real here, if he can't do it here in Minny, he won't be much better off somewhere else, it's still going to be the NFL, same players and same skills required. I think we will be pleasantly surprised, but I'm also being optimistic and cautious at the same time.

The silence in camp about Bradbury is interesting. I haven't heard one thing about how he's looked coming in to camp, how good/bad he's playing etc..

I believe the starting line against GB will be Hill at LT, Dozier at LG, Bradbury, Elf at RG and O'Neil at RT. It's the least disruptive combination and only Elf is playing in a spot he hasn't played in for the Vikings. Give them two weeks to iron it out and let it go. Next year the Vikings will have to take another guard since Samia isn't working out, but that shit happens, not everyone works out.

It's also my impression that Hill is a better LT than RT. So if we're not going Udoh at RT or RG, then imo hill should be at LT and ONeill stay where he is.

As Dana pointed out the silence on Bradbury is curious. Sometimes its the kiss of death - the praise (Treadwell) but almost nothing on Bradbury's performance.

Gameplanning for GB. Their Defensive Ends were ignoring the sweep/stretch going away from them. I thought we would adjust by the second game and bring the TE across the formation as an outlet or to pick up the crashing DE. We didn't do either and Cousins continued to face pressure. Hope Kubiak has some stuff installed for the teams ignoring those run plays.

I though Ngakoue was a LDE.

Tomasson was wrong about that.

Ngakoue plays both sides, but plays quite a bit more on the right.

Last year: 490 snaps at RDE, 282 at LDE.

Any word on how Zim plans to deploy them?

Since from Day one they've been very vocal about not moving Hunter from LDE, I'd assume Ngakoue is our starting RDE.

And Odenigbo likely will back-up both guys and play some DT on obvious passing downs.

I missed them saying they wouldn't move Hunter from LDE. He wreaked havoc from RDE when he played there for Griffin, so I thought it would a natural move. Either way, it's cool.

I thought I remembered Zimmer saying early on that Hunter is a natural RDE.

August 8th:

In the nearly five months since Everson Griffen announced he wouldn't be returning to the Vikings, there has been some speculation about where the Vikings will deploy superstar defensive end Danielle Hunter in 2020.

Hunter has spent the first five seasons of his career playing left defensive end, meaning he lines up across from right tackles. Griffen has always manned the right side, taking on left tackles as he rushes the quarterback's blind side. There's a perception that a team's best pass rusher lines up at right defensive end, which has fueled the idea of Hunter sliding across the formation to fill Griffen's vacated spot.

On Friday, Vikings co-defensive coordinator and d-line coach Andre Patterson made it clear that Hunter will be staying right where he's always been.

“He’s still a left defensive end for me," Patterson said. "Why would you move somebody that’s doing something great? I don’t understand that. He’s the fastest to 50 sacks in NFL history. You guys would be all over me if I moved him to the right and all of a sudden he wasn’t very good. I’m smarter than that."

I was just going to post similar.

Hill is good in spot duty and he’s flexible enough to switch sides but my impression is that he has struggled more the longer he has to fill in.

Also, the Reiff ... yes he’s barely average but not only are handing the job to his backup, we no longer have a solid backup with LT experience (in the nfl).

Could be a roller coaster.

We’re going to find out real quick if we’re better off with Hill and O’Neill at the Tackle positions, or if O’Neill and Udoh are the better combo. Hopefully one of them works out or our season is toast.

What’s amazing is that assuming Reiff is cut, the Vikings ENTIRE offensive line will make less money than Reiff was scheduled to make this year.

Hearing from a source that if/when Riley Reiff gets cut (which appears imminent at this point) that Rashod Hill is more likely to take over right tackle than Oli Udoh

That makes sense. Hill has been consistently solid in the swing tackle role.

Udoh. It's kind of late to experiment, but better now than in the season. Anyway, in the event of injuries players may need to fill in at different places. On the other hand, it is possible that the Vikings go to war with O'Neill and Udoh as their tackles. We'll find out soon.

Kubiak and Dennison will make thier money this year....look back on what Denver was able to do w/o spending a ton of money on the Oline. (They spent it on Defense and won the SB).

2015 Denver Broncos OLine:
LT Ryan Harris 30 8 16 Denver Broncos / 3rd / 70th pick / 2007
LG Evan Mathis 34 10 12 Carolina Panthers / 3rd / 79th pick / 2005
C Matt Paradis 26 1 16 Denver Broncos / 6th / 207th pick / 2014
RG Louis Vasquez 28 6 15 San Diego Chargers / 3rd / 78th pick / 2009
RT Michael Schofield 25 1 13 Denver Broncos / 3rd / 95th pick / 2014

Also Denver had a ton of their salary tied up into Peyton...

I was a bit surprised we did not adjust for that against GB. Do our coaches know it's legal to make in game adjustments?
