The #Vikings have waived WR Tajae Sharpe.

Purple Post on Twitter

I remember he dropped a pass that would have been a difficult catch, but it was catchable. It has to be tough as a receiver when you don't see many passes come your way. I wish him well going forward.

BTW - someone yesterday was talking about the Vikings still having a 64% chance of making the playoffs....which I have no idea how someone came up with those odds considering we will be a heavy underdog vs NO

The number I saw this AM is 20%

Isn't it a given the cap is going to take a huge hit next season because of the lack of fans this year?

The owners are not going to just bend over and eat that loss.

I read one report that says it will be 195M and be stagnant for a few years. I think David F is using a 180M for the cap next year?

Even considering the playoff push (however slim it looks), I get some youngsters some PT down the stretch to see what we've got. Watts at 3T (looks like most his PT has been at NT). Udoh at RG. Gotta have a better idea of what we have in the trenches. I think Wilson will cost too much and Barr's cap hit is too high for a change there, I put LB lower on the list. I gotta think a guy like Reiff has some trade value. The other big question mark is corner (crazy with all the draft capital we've spent). I don't think Hughes is back, are we seeing enough from Boyd, Hand to be ok. I like Gladney and Dantzler quite a bit, who is our other starting outside CB?. Assuming a line of Ezra, G, Bradbury, Udoh, ONeill. Assuming Harris is not resigned.

LG - need a step in ready guy.
S - need a step in ready guy.
Developmental QB
DE - Is wonnum good enough to move into a starting spot?
CB - Hand/Boyd?
WR3 - Bisi and Beebe just aren't good enough in the modern world.
Development S - Smith replacement.
3T - Watts and a rotation enough?

That's my way too early list. 2 immediate starters have to come from that draft and we better get some great continued development (ie guys like hinton and Samia for line depth) for us to improve next year.

Do we get a draft pick if they let Harris walk as FA?

They could get as high as a 3rd round comp pick depending on the size of the contract he signs with another team and who we sign (they can cancel each other out - probably not an issue with our cap space) . But the comp pick wouldn't be until the 2022 draft. And Harris might be playing his way out of a big deal, plus he'll be 30 when he hits FA.

Thru 14 weeks, the Vikings rank 2nd in the NFL in points scored in the 2nd Half of games (15.4 per game).
Thru 14 weeks, the Vikings rank 32nd in the NFL in points allowed in the 2nd Half of games (15.7 per game).

Bucs ran just 46 meaningful offensive plays against the Vikings. Scored on 5 of their final 6 drives (excluding kneel down drive from deep in Vikings territory), 5 of 8 total. Two Brady misses early in the game kept it from likely being 7 of 8 drives, he rebounded nicely though.

Jon Ledyard on Twitter

Not a great performance by the defense. I do believe that there is an advantage for one team to be off of a bye. We lost two games this year to teams off of a bye. There has to be at least one team that didn't have to play a team off of a bye. I'm curious which team that would be. Could it be the Bucs or the Packers?

The Vikings are also the only team in the league this season with two games where they held the ball for fewer than 20 minutes. What a weird year for this offense.

The #Vikings are working out kicker Taylor Bertolet, per the transaction wire. The 28-year-old went 9 of 14 on field goal attempts in the AAF last year and has never played in an NFL game. He kicked at Texas A&M from 2012-15 and made 66 percent of his FGAs.

(Will Ragatz on Twitter)

My hunch is that there will not be any changes this week for Bailey. Just some "competition".

Ezra Cleveland allowed 8 pressures yesterday.
Yes, he executes the scheme very well, but he doesn’t quite have the anchor to hold up against strong interior rushers, which was expected. I think a move back out to OT would be good for him.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/cap/2021/

If we draft and sign our first rounder in 2021 (spotrac currently estimates #20 at a cost of $2.5 mil) with our current roster of players under contract in 2021 we'd be about $8 mil over the cap right now. That's without Harris, Wilson, Todd Davis, Rashod Hill, a backup QB, Bret Jones, Dakota Dozier, Hercules, Odenbingo, Jaleel Johnson, Chris Jones, Beebe and Tajae Sharpe to name just the ones that play a bit (or more) right now.

We need space so someone(s) gonna have to go. Here are the choices:

Cousins: Cap hit $31 mil, dead money $41 mil, he ain't going anywhere

Hunter: Cap hit $17.75, dead money $12 mil, he ain't going anywhere

Barr: Cap hit $15.5 mil, dead money $7.8 mil, could save $7.7 mil. He probably stays because we're losing Wilson and Davis. Fire Spielman

Rieff: Cap hit $14 mil, dead money $2.2 mil, could save $11.8 mil. He probably goes for the money which is a shame he's had a great year. Ezra will probably be decent at LT

Thielen: Cap hit $13.5 mil, dead money $5.4 mil. He ain't going anywhere. This is a great value contract

Kendricks: Cap hit $12.5 mil, dead money $9.9 mil. Almost no savings and he's probably the best player on the team

H. Smith: Cap hit $10.25 mil, dead money $0. Uh oh.

Rudy: Cap hit $9.5 mil, dead money $4.4 mil. Fire Spielman

Pierce: Cap hit $5.4 mil, dead money $3.0 mil. Good contract. Hopefully he's as good as many think and would have given us more wins in the 1-5 start.

Dalvin: Cap hit $5.2 mil, dead money $22.2 mil. Our grandkids' grandkids might not live to see the end of this contract. Stay healthy my man!

Shamar Stephen: Cap hit $5.1 mil, dead money $1.3 mil. Consistently above-average, solid depth, keep him

Bailey: Cap hit $3.8 mil, dead money $2.1 mil. Lord have mercy.

Bradbury: Cap hit $3.5 mil, dead money $7.6 mil. He's bought and paid for so I guess he's our center. I thought he improved throughout the season. Would have been an excellent 3rd-round pick

Everyone else has such a small cap hit that it doesn't merit discussion.

LOL! Literally

The public/fans gave them hundreds of millions of dollars to operate a business in good faith, and that business functions to deliver winning football and make money. The business has grown in value dramatically and continues to take in tens of millions of dollars every year from the network money. They aren't "losing" money, even now. Pay up.

It cuts both ways... owners who have spent to the cap aren't going to want to loose big time free agents just cause the other half of the league were cheap on payroll.

I think that is a good analogy. Sure like to see him play some LT before handing him the job though.

Reiff has earned his spurs this season IMO. But his 14ml cap hit is just too much. I wonder if he'd stay on a restructured contract? Thing is if Ezra moves out to LT we need two new G's. I don't think we can trust this regime to actually field two NFL G's.

Not having 60,000 to 80,000 fans buying tickets, food, and alcohol is a huge hit no matter what you think about their overall financial situation.

Speaking of the pandemic's affect on salary caps and payrolls. I think it would be fair to expect all existing contracts to decrease by whatever % the salary cap decreases. Everyone get's a little cut instead of a few individuals per team with low dead cap #'s taking the hit. This was an unforeseen, once in a lifetime (hopefully), catastrophe, and they should all be willing to share the pain a little, IMHO.

One NFL reporter on radio speculated they might try and sign broadcast extensions/new deals and with a bump in rights fees spread out the pandemic hit over a few years to soften the blow.

I agree, I assume some sort of across the board cut seems logical, I guess whatever they do might already be in the agreement with the NFLPA.

Thanks for the breakdown. Well, the upside is that Spielman is pretty much forced to do the right thing as far as keeping and cutting players next year. As far as starters go, Reiff, Rudolph, Harris, will be gone, as will Wilson (unfortunately), and maybe Stephen. I'd guess we'll rework Harrison Smith's deal as well. Fortunately, Spielman will have 4 positions that he MUST fill through the draft and FA:

2 Guards
1 3T DT
1 Safety

Hopefully he can secure 1 Guard through FA. With so many draft picks a competent GM should be able to secure starters at the other 3 positions through the draft. If he pulls it off we can absolutely compete for a Superbowl next year. We'll see.
