ORIGINAL: Trekgeekscott I want to say that Tyler Conklin is making me a believer. That TD run was a thing of beauty. He catches the ball, and does something with it after the catch. and doesn't just go down on first contact. Rudy would've been tackled on that play. Plus TC is a better blocker... More complete package and more consistant than Irv Smith Jr. He's shown it in the past two seasons as well. In those two seasons we gave him all of seventeen targets which he turned into thirteen catches for 135 yards. This year we've given him fourteen targets which he's turned into twelve catches for 123 yards and a TD. We took him in the fifth round of the 2018 draft. Next year will be the final year of his four-year deal and only now are we figuring out he's as good or better than Rudolph. Fire Spielman. Fire Zimmer. 31 other teams passed on him 4 times at least. Should all their coaches and GMs be fired too? I think his point is that the Vikings have had him on their roster for three years now and are just now figuring out what he can do. Even then it's only because of injuries. So Standard Operating Procedures for this regime... I think you guys are making a bit too much about one play. Given they see the kid in practice every day, I'm pretty sure they have an understanding of what he can and cannot do. It was a nice effort, I'll give him that. I've seen Chad Beebe make some nice efforts, but I don't want him on the field on every play as a result. I've made the same observation about Oli Udoh. He gets no chance to play. Even though Player after player fails at G for this team. Why not give Udoh a chance? Well...Same goes for Conklin. He only gets a chance when everyone else gets hurt but time and again makes the most of those chances. Perhaps he would not be as effective in a more frequent role. but who knows until they try? With Rudy overprices and aging, Irv Smith talented yet inconsistant. Conklin hopefully can step up and take more reps next year... We don't need to make TE a need this offseason, but it's likely Rudy is on his way out for cap reasons, and Smith hasn't been dependable enough yet in two season to take the job. Conklin has shown signs he can step up and do the job. How good a player is seems to have little to do with it. Salary and draft status are king. With this regime, whoever they deem the starter stays there through horrible play game after game as the season collapses. No amount of holding, false start, and drive killing penalties matter. I like what Philly did with Wentz in benching him. Some here advocated for picking Hurts in the draft. Sometimes you need a spark off the bench to get a team going. Really interested in seeing what unfolds for the Vikings draft next year. We'll probably end up with a record 18 picks, with 13 of them between rounds 5 thru 7. and 8 of them, including our first three picks will be DBs
