Good for you, Zim

- I mean we could change coaches every 3 years from now until the end of time, I guess ...

I really don't understand that move at all. Zygi should tell him to make a meaningful playoff run and we can talk after the year.

I disagree. He has a great season and we haven't extended him he will go to the highest bidder. Good coach and better than what's available.

Agree

Or Zimmer can make a substantial playoff run and tell Zygi to **** off and go coach somewhere else.

Zimmer's been a good coach for us and it is time for him to take the next step and get us into a Superbowl.

Absolutely Scott.

With rookies set to report to training camp on Thursday, the Vikings have begun to ramp up the process of officially signing their 2020 draft class. So far on Wednesday, rookie contracts have been signed (or terms agreed to, at least) by first-round pick Justin Jefferson, second-rounder Ezra Cleveland, fourth-rounders James Lynch and Troy Dye, fifth-rounder K.J. Osborn, and seventh-rounder Kyle Hinton.

With seventh-rounder Nate Stanley having already signed his deal, seven of the team's 15 draft picks are now under contract or will be soon. More are expected to follow in short succession.

https://www.si.com/nfl/vikings/news/justin-jefferson-vikings-draftees-sign-rookie-contracts

I hope all 15 are signed by tomorrow. Psyched about every one of the signings today.

According to this report it's a done deal.

MIKE ZIMMER
C, MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Vikings signed coach Mike Zimmer to a multi-year extension.
The particulars of the deal aren't known, but Zimmer was set to enter the final year of his deal prior to the extension. It keeps Zimmer out of lame-duck status. Zimmer, 64, is actually the league's eighth-longest tenured coach, as he heads into his seventh season atop the helm in Minnesota. Zimmer is 57-38-1 with a 2-3 postseason record. He likely needs to start winning some playoff games if he's going to stick around for a decade in Minnesota, but Zimmer is undoubtedly one of the more solid coaches in the sport.

It's an interesting conversation. I'm curious how many viking players live with their extended families - parents, etc. The testing seems robust. Our experience at our hospital, we test everyone prior to them getting a surgery, is 7 positive tests in 3500 tests. We don't see a lot of asymptomatic carriers.

Me, selfishly, I want the season to happen. The draft had record viewership. I think TV numbers will be sky high and many ppl will want the distraction.

I don't worry too much about the product - unless entire units go down and it creates just massive unfair competition. Which is certainly possible.

But I certainly get the other side of things.

You think he'd leave the team he just built that finally had a meaningful playoff run? To go where? A 4-12 rebuilder? Not a chance. Management was holding all the leverage and they gave it away.

I believe in the virtue of good will. They perhaps could have beat up Zim on his price to continue, and I suppose he could have said that he will retire, but good will sometimes is more valuable than money. You want Zimmer to invest 110% and being that he is the head coach that will rub off on the team. A happy head coach sets the tone for the whole team. Besides, he is worth all that he could get. He's one of the best coaches we've ever had.

I find myself sweating each player's signing, especially now the cornerbacks, but I know that there's not much to it. They are locked in for a certain level of compensation and they want to play football. It's there first contract and they are looking forward to the money. It's a technicality that the team has to get through, though. I'm sure it will all happen in a timely way.

I'm happy that today is the day. Some people on Twitter have been counting down the number of days until the first game. I count down the number of days until training camp. I look forward to the eyewitness reports. It's no longer time for just speculation. We are going to get the substantial reports on how the players look, how they are doing and how they are progressing. I love it. It's my favorite time of the year.

DF he's already had 2 meaningful playoff runs and if not for a shanked 29 yard FG against Seattle he would have 3. If you don't consider finishing 3rd, 5th, and who knows what could have been meaningful I don't know what to say.
I'm fully with Bruce. This year might not be our year. We need time for the 15 draft picks to gel with the rest of the team. So if we don't have a meaningful playoff run this year I will still be glad that we have Zim because a title is coming soon.

The question of the day is which seven players will be cut today to get down to 80. Here's one man's prediction:

On the test numbers... say a person contracts COVID-19 but the person is basically fine. Isn't it true that after such time, the swab test will not be able to pick up any virus in the nose/mouth (hence a negative test result)? But, that person has the virus in their system. So can it get passed to another person?

Here's a good article about Stephen. I don't like the chances for Lynch to step in right away. (Of course I'd love to be proven wrong.) I think we all would like to see the position upgraded, although it's fair to point out in his defense that he did not see the field on passing downs.

As someone who had Covid and was tested twice in the hospital I believe that is not the case. The test will be positive even if the player is asymptomatic. Nevertheless, it is also fair to say that the reason they tested me twice was because they wanted to make double sure. Perhaps there's some margin for error. I had to have two consecutive negative tests in order to be released, so I was sweating the second test because if it was positive my stay in the hospital would have been prolonged.

Yeah. I think if you have it, it would show up on any kind of test.

OK, you had two negative tests. But as someone who had COVID, are they saying the COVID is entirely (within reason for this question) gone from your body? I guess it's that you have the antibodies? Or enough of them to tamp down the virus??

Every test has a margin of error. PCR and antigen test are most common. The PCR test is a DNA/RNA test and the antigen is a protein test. Theres a lot of versions of those tests (Manufacturers) so I'd have to look up the accuracy of each test. There is an evolution in testing too. Early on in COVID, someone could have all the symptoms. Chest Xray and CT comeback with tale tail signs and the patient was testing negative. They'd keep testing and on the 2nd or 3rd test it'd come back positive. On the other side, a person could be asymptomatic, have enough viral load to be a transmitter. Percent of asymptomatic carriers/transmitters is a little unknown - I think CDC last guessed 35% but could be wrong.

After the viral load goes down, both in asymptomatic and symptomatic carriers - usually 72 hours after last signs of symptoms a person is no longer able to transmit the disease. What % of people have antibodies and for how long after the disease is still unknown.

That's at least what I think I know - I'm certainly no expert.

I specifically asked the hospital doctor if I had the antibodies. He said that that is a separate test. I was interested because I was thinking that I probably should donate plasma now and help someone else who is in trouble. My family doctor told me that since I had Covid as long as I did there is no doubt that I have the anti-bodies.

So to answer your question, the test that I received specifically checked to see if I still the virus inside of me. It is the same test that everybody else is getting these days where they stick something down your nose. It's not pleasant.

There is a question as to how long the anti-bodies remain in the blood. I'm reading about the new vaccines that they are testing and how it produces three times as many anti-bodies as those who had the disease. That is so cool. Of course we all are hoping that this pandemic is the major issue and concern that it is for this year only.

Bleacher Report says Zimmer extended...

https://bleacherreport.com/minnesota-vikings

"The Minnesota Vikings and head coach Mike Zimmer are reportedly finalizing a multiyear contract extension."

"reportedly finalizing"

Not done yet!

I really don't understand that move at all. Zygi should tell him to make a meaningful playoff run and we can talk after the year.

I disagree. He has a great season and we haven't extended him he will go to the highest bidder. Good coach and better than what's available.

You understand that 'finishing 3rd' and 'finishing 5th' are made up things by you right? I get your point in that you believe in Zim and think he's on track - and you may very well be correct - but making up things to bolster your argument probably works against you.

I wouldn't give ANY qb $30-50+ mil unless that QB had won me a Super Bowl. Did you win a Super Bowl on your rookie deal? Yes? Great! Here's your hugenormous contract. F it let's just run victory laps and love life. No? Good luck. Next!

And Chris Tomasson just tweeted two minutes ago that Brian Cole has signed.
