I'm a little bit perturbed by these multi-millionaire athletes who are balking at their safety. I say go ahead and stay home and forfeit your salaries including a pro-rated portion of your signing bonus. There are plenty of eager players who will be happy to take your place. If it's the players association holding back the season, then bring on the scabs or just shut down the season. I have no patience for this.

Tyler Johnson officially an NFL player.

TYLER JOHNSON
WR, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Buccaneers signed fifth-round WR Tyler Johnson to a four-year contract.
Johnson (6’1/206) was a three-year starting slot receiver for the Gophers with nice hands and size. He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons as a junior and senior and holds the Gophers’ career record for receiving yards (3,305) and touchdowns (33). On tape, he uses his hands very well and makes plays in traffic, but he isn't a natural separator and has below-average burst. Despite the record-breaking production, Johnson wasn’t invited to the Senior Bowl, a sign the NFL had little interest in him throughout the draft process. He was also dinged by scouts for not competing, by choice, at the NFL Combine. The Bucs are a great landing spot in that Johnson gets to learn from Tom Brady, but his early career path to targets is completely blocked by the prodigious talent in front of him.

I'll say yet again, the Vikings will regret passing on Johnson. He'll force his way on the field in TB and Brady is going to love throwing to him.

I agree with this statement. Esp being Spielman had so many picks. The back end of our wr core needed to be upgraded. I think Tyler Johnson has the upside to end up being one of the better wr's in this draft.

Looks like #NFL players will get their wish for ZERO Preseason games.
But don’t fall for their rhetoric. Players have never wanted to play Preseason games. They are just capitalizing on an opportunity.

I wonder if all the draft picks and UDFA's will fit with the reduced 80 man TC roster

It's probably a better number anyway.

I would be watching the 4th preseason game(I shouldn't admit this) and wondering who some of these guys were.

A whole lot of a team's success this year may come down to what coaching staffs are able to get their teams firing on all cylinders by Week 1 without a regular off-season and preseason games. Lose a couple games you should have won in the first few weeks and you may be watching the playoffs from the couch.

Good to have veteran coaches and system stability. Vikings should benefit.

I always record the preseason games because more times than not I fall asleep.

KG here are a couple links for you

https://purplepainforums.com/thread/3501/cousins-top-pass-defenses-bottom?page=1

https://purplepainforums.com/thread/3520/kirk-cousins-bottom-defenses-top

Kirk is the best qb in the league against bottom 10 defenses. Not so much against the top 10.

Kirk is one of the best Qbs in the league period. Everybody does better against the bottom teams and worse against the better teams

I'm reading that it's confirmed that there will be no preseason games and the roster begins with 80 players. 17 players will have to be cut and any remaining free agents are in trouble.

Starting with 80 and cutting 17 leaves 63. Is that the roster size for this season?

Sorry. 7 is correct. My bad, but so is the news for 7 players who never had a chance. Perhaps some of them could still have a chance somehow. For example, if one player is not cutting the mustard, he could be quickly replaced with one of the 7.

I get it, I know how many of us are Jonesing for football, it's been in our blood, for most of us, for many years at this time of the year. For many years I'd be going through two-a-days, weight lifting sessions and talking with parents about what I am expecting from their son. We'd all be hearing the latest from our favorite collegiate program, wondering if last years sophomore was going to be the stud we were hoping for and where we stand in the top 25. Our favorite pro team is getting ready for camp and we cant wait to see how it shapes out, but really, this year isn't going to be like any past year or future year for football, be it high school, NCAA, or pros, it simply wont and cant be. I would be so much happier if they just came out and said sorry folks, see you next year because what we are about to see will not resemble the game we have known to love.

I know, it's a downer to talk about no fans, piped in noise, strange silence at the games, but hey, it's all going to be a fact. For the first time ever, the coaches will be able to watch the substitution packages, send in their response and have an extra 15 seconds to react to the formation, all in complete silence. The audibles will be clear as a bell and adjustments just as swift. The scores will be high and they will somehow try to pass this off as football the way we know it. Never mind that there will be so much advertisement that you will be bringing up these products in your dreams, that's just the tip of the media blitz screen that will be passed of as the new norm. Play by Play guys will be talking about how they heard the signal and just knew what play was coming, etc..

We won't be able to go to the Friday night games and watch the local boys try to break that damn loosing streak or perhaps see them go undefeated. Nope, 2020 should be just a write off, just call it what it is. It may go down as the worst year in modern history, at least the history of those living through it. It's not anybodies fault, well, except maybe the Chinese who invented the damn thing and didn't keep it contained, but really, that doesn't even matter either, because it's about now and now sucks. People we know and love have suffered and died, I know both groups myself, and it's just what we have to deal with.

What I find so disgusting is the greed. Man kind can not simply say, "hey, we will see you in 2021 when this damn thing is under control", instead of trying to pass a substandard product out to the public, just to make money. It's stupid, I say stupid because for the next 10 years after this, we will be hearing the proverbial "well, besides the COVID year of 2020, which really doesn't count", just like the strike years way back when. Greed folks, it's still the center of our universe, even when we can't figure out if it safe to send our kids to school. Really, this is how we lead the way, this is how we show our children how we handle a tough situation like this.

There should be no Baseball, Hockey, Basketball or Football. I don't mind golf because the fans just make me wince most of the time anyway, so many don't know how to behave. But really, we can live without the sports, we have been for months now, we could do it all the way to a vaccine and a world cleansing of this menace. What they are going to try to pass off as the game of football is only going to skew what we thought the game was meant to be, about us, the fans, we are the ones that made the game swing in our teams favor, without that, well, it's Madden stuff with live players, yawn!

It's still football. I record the games and wait until it's an hour or so into it so I can skip the commercials. It's still the Minnesota Vikings playing the Green Bay Packers. I'm all for the games being played. The nation needs to return to normal the best that we can instead of hunker down in our basements. People need to get back to work and that it includes the football players.

Bruce

There has been some objections from veterans regarding the protocols to protect them that the NFL has not addressed these objections by the NFLPA.

IMO the NFL doesn't give two squirts about the players. Player safety should be the overriding concern, and the NFL should do what they can to prevent players and staff from catching the virus.

By virtue of even setting up the season as a 'go', they've failed.

Many players would like to see their parents, grandparents, some may have kids with conditions, etc. Perhaps some vets will hold out. Enjoy watching replacement players and an inferior product.

Why do multi-million dollar athletes need to go back to work?

Do big shot Hollywood actors need to go back to work? They too are entertainers.

I can't think of an occupation that is more anti-social distancing than a football player.

Wilson, in particular, has recently been vocal about demanding specifics from the NFL regarding COVID-19 protocol in 2020. The Pro Bowler was among the biggest names to lead an NFLPA social media campaign on Sunday, when dozens of players called out league leadership and asked for safety measures to be ironed out ahead of the season.

"It's really, really important that we do it the right way at the highest level," Wilson told McHale. "I think that's what the concern is. At the end of the day, we want to play. But we want to do it in a safe way."

Because the livelihood of a lot of people are affected by whether the economy opens up or not, and that includes major league sports. It's not just about the athletes.

Why does that hinge on the stars (which is what I meant by multi-million dollar athletes) needing to play? Backups can take their place and the game goes on. Viewership may go down, which affects the next round of multi-billion dollar television contracts. But for the time being I think the livelihood of people in the league as a whole won't change much if some stars sit. Besides, it's still the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Green Bay Packers, right?

And actually it's ALL about the athletes if they still plan to play tackle football with 22 players on the field. As you probably know, the virus can hurt or kill younger people too.

If NFL players get the COVID19 there's a good chance they would never notice without the testing. Their safety is NOT a problem.
I haven't heard of a professional athlete dying from COVID or even getting very sick.
There could be an exception that I haven't heard about.
The ones who have complicating health conditions should maybe sit out.
Who they might pass it onto if they get it is more important to address.
