We resigned Ellefson for some reason. Are we going to release Mundt? Maybe we're going to line up a 4 TE package?

Or cut him..

Old, slow, overpaid.

1,2,3 strikes.. you’re out…

go take a seat on the chopping block…

I'd be OK keeping him on a massive pay cut and provided the plan is to play him mostly in the box. Almost more of a LB/SS hybrid.

He still has value there. I don't want him out in coverage.

Call it the 41 package.

...and Cook up the middle for no gain.

Overthecap and Spotrac have us a bit over the cap, and neither has slotted in Davenport's $13 million. It's not like they are direct mirrors of the team's books, but I wonder if something has not been reported.

It has to be Hicks Contract.

As far as the #Vikings' salary cap situation goes...

Za'Darius Smith, Harrison Smith and Dalvin Cook all have guarantees that will trigger if they are on the roster on the third day of this league year, which is Friday. So, still potentially some facets to work through.

The cowboys released Zeke Elliot. Between that and all the other quality RBs already free agents (Miles Sanders, Kareem Hunt, Dont'e Foreman, etc...) and the upcoming draft I see no way the Vikes find anyone willing to trade for Dalvin. The market for running backs was stale a month ago and it's actually gotten worse. Having a running back on a second contract is the new carrying a fullback. Wait, what? Oh shit that's right we have one of those too.

I wouldn't give ANY qb $30-50+ mil unless that QB had won me a Super Bowl. Did you win a Super Bowl on your rookie deal? Yes? Great! Here's your hugenormous contract. F it let's just run victory laps and love life. No? Good luck. Next!

Yup. If there really was an offer of a 4th rounder for Cook, we should've jumped on it.

i'm a bit surprised so many want to cut Z.

He pretty much was our pass rush the first half of the season while Hunter was still adjusting.

I keep him. You simply can't have enough good pass rushers. There are other position groups where cap savings can be milked out.

Where is Davenport playing? He is similar to Hunter in terms of height/weight, which would suggest OLB. In which case are you ok with a cap-strapped team playing big bucks to three OLBs when only two can be on the field? Or are you expecting them to get injured? Seems cheaper backups are usually called on to fill-in.

"Your Fired" should be what the owner says to any GM that wants to give a running back a second contract.

Well hell. Of the remaining big contracts, Harrison Smith's $19M, $19M, $22M through 2025 needs to be shredded then incinerated.

Maybe the problem is if he is cut, the dead cap is $11.7M and the cap savings is only $7.4M. Not sure, but that could put us in negative cap. Would rather the dead cap be in 2023, but it may not be allowed I don't know.

Whereas if he is designated a post-June 1 cut, those numbers are $4M and $15M. I think you can cut up to two players early and designate them as post-June 1 cuts.

Dead cap. Negative cap. Over the cap.

I'd rather have Joe Kapp at quarterback, and he's 84 now.

Bullshit posts. Dogshit posts. Horseshit posts.

I'd rather have real Vikings fans posting here, with even just one or two lines of information now and then rather than endless dumb-ass comments.

And yeah, the cap is a real thing. An important thing. This isn't the 1960s... join in on the modern NFL. Or just continue to be you.

Mattison re-signed...2 years 7+ total..

Hope that means Cook is gone. Paying them both would be stupid.

Davenport has been a 4-3 DE for NO since being drafted. Thus he will look like a fish out of water for 8-10 games like Hunter did.

This is why keeping Z on the roster makes perfect sense. We can cut corners salary cap elsewhere. IE: Hock/JJ ext will both lower the cap hit. Last year when Z got hurt our pass rush was ineffective. Having a 3rd guy with serious pass rush credentials could move the needle toward a more effective defense for an entire season and possible playoff run.

I like this strategy by Kwesi. In this day and age of the NFL paying a guy like Cook is nothing short of stupid. Matty may not have a second gear but he does everything else better than Cook. Excellent blocking in pass pro, good hands receiving, and is much more of a grinder in short yardage.

The running game in todays NFL is more about keeping defenses honest so you can throw the ball vs running them over.

I lost a lot of faith in Kwesi when he reinked Bradbury. But the C market wasn't good and it is a contract we can get out of after one year. This RB move makes me believe he is in tune with what is what in todays NFL (unlike Spielman).

Probably because they had to put his picture on a milk carton the second half of the season.

Davenport ( .5 sacks) picture was on the milk carton all season!!!!!!

Wise up.

Z had the same amount of sacks as Hunter did last season. Why is everyone wanting him to walk the gallows and not Hunter?

Short term memory? Z was amazing for 10 games until the knee contusion. He could have sat in the hot tub but he insisted on playing and all everyone wants to do is cut him.

Be careful what you wish for when stiffs like Mike White and Cooper Rush look like all pros against us. Putting heat on the qb is what todays NFL is geared around (unless your name is Brad Hoiseth). We need every abled body we can that has a swim move.

Tomorrow is put up or shut up day with Cook, Harry and Zad.

Harry's dead money is so inflated you'd think he would have been gone respectfully with Kendrick and Thielen either outright or more likely as a designated post June 1 cut ... so there must be genuine interest by both parties to renegotiate a deal for him to stay. Not sure we can leverage him down far enough to an appropriate contract ... whatever that would be.

Mattison's signing, Cook's injury, his 4th highest avg RB salary, and no longer being the zimmer centerpiece of the offense ... he's gone period, I think.

Not sure why Zad wants to bail on his deal so fast. He played very well in spurts but didn't alleviate the injury concern. I could say he wants to play on a not-lousy defense but the way he bailed on Baltimore last year and jumped to us for more money ... not sure he's driven by a pure competitive spirit. It wouldn't surprise me to see us renegotiate a shorter deal so we get some more bang out of the him and the signing bonuses he received while he gets to hit FA faster.

Just to be clear, I'd prefer to move on from all three. Kwesi and the coaching staff were busy hobnobbing at the Gophers pro day today, so it was like a day off almost. Hopefully tomorrow will be another whirlwind like Tuesday ... even bigger ... with a clean, direct impact on the 2023 cap, with minimal rolling over.

I simply don't care for players that don't want to be here. They're dead to me.

Edit: if the rumors about Zad wanting out are true.

Z doesn't seem to be able to make it through a season, any season. Davenport, not so much, it seems.
