Starting on Feb 9th weighing in @ 310 to today March 11th...encompassing 31 days I'm @ 281 having lost 29 pounds. That's with virtually no exercise for the sake of exercise. Now the job I'm at has me walking 10's of thousands of steps a night and I'm lifting and moving my body so that helps a lot.

I'm almost never hungry and eat up to 6 times a day. Mostly 'super foods'.

My blood sugar numbers are still shiny as all get out. Got them completely in check. One dr noted that they were 'damn near perfect'. Official blood test in 2 months. Not only am I 100% certain insulin injections aren't in my future...I may be completely off medication in 6 months. Even the medicine I was talking for my acid reflux. Haven't had a single symptom and I have jalapenos every day.

It's kind of funny to me...if I didn't get that diagnosis and change my life around I don't think I could do this job. I didn't feel there were a lot of options for me and fizzling out at this job because I couldn't take the physical demands would have probably crushed me.

Yes. But while she's happy for me and how easily the weight is falling off, and esp happy with the diabetes control she is frustrated that her weight loss is moving at a snails pace - at least comparatively. While she is eating the same food I am, with portion control, and gave up pop, junk, and even drinks her coffees w/o sweeteners...she hasn't bought into eating enough imo. Getting her to eat breakfast has been a real challenge. And she doesn't eat a regular lunch. When I fill in her daily food chart I skip breakfast and lunch and punch in dinner and 'snacks' as she nibbles on what I pack her throughout the day often bringing home what she doesn't eat. I'm trying to get her to 'stoke the fires' so to speak by eating the right things at the right time. She's vowed to do breakfast with me for the next two weeks to see if that makes a difference. I think it will.

Got to get her moving more as well. She needs to be motivated by me though, and I usually limp home, sleep erratically and have nothing to give in the way of 'let's for a walk' or 'xyz'...things to work on.

It's only been a month and she might just have to accept that it might take her years to obtain her goals. I try and tell her to be patient. In a year, a pound a week is 50lbs...that she'll get there. And that she shouldn't measure her success against mine. It's a process. But we're in it for the long haul.

Personally I think one of the biggest things that have worked for me is the breakfast thing. Yes drinking no pop and tons of water helps and giving up processed food is a big deal...I think the oatmeal I eat every morning religiously with flax and chia seeds has been the biggest game changer.

It sounds like you've figured out exactly what works for you Todd, and that's fantastic.

It may be that what your wife needs to do might be slightly different, but I agree that eating consistently but in smaller portions is a big key. And at the end of that year you both will be glad you invested that year to getting healthier because one way or another that year is going to go by. You might as well choose a path that let's you look back and be glad you're not where you were 52 weeks ago.

You nailed it with your time is going to pass one way or another point.

I've finally gotten my wife to stop saying; if only we/I did this years ago. You can't go back, only forward. At least when this next year passes we'll be in a better place.

Yeah, the two current pairs of jeans I own have gone from gut busting tight to easily slipped off with my belt at at it's tightest setting. Had to make a new notch. Gonna go digging this weekend for pairs I put away that haven't fit in a while.

Yes. And I learned something. They don't call them 'small' there's 'large' 'regular' and 'snugger fit'.

On March the 8th weighing an even 285 I made it a goal to hit 275 within the next month's worth of time. Down again this morning - to 278.8.

That's .975 pounds a day. Seems crazy to me. I'm not on the biggest loser eating lettuce sandwiches being pushed to the limit by a personal trainer...

A lot of people eat a lot of junk.

As appreciation one manager brought in 3 5 pound bags of candy and a large tray of chocolate cupcakes.

Every day someone is scarfing down on burgers and fries.

Don't mind me while I sit here and eat my avocado and smoked mussels w/garlic...
