We are young and it shows in spades at times. A lot of talent though. We also need to be more ruthless on offense. Nelson's line particular. A tac-tac-tac-tac-tap in is pretty but when you have a scoring chance, take it! Too unselfish way too many times.

Looking at the attendance. Doesn't look good, even vs Wisconsin.

Will Big 10 hockey ever catch on? Or does college hockey have to be more regional? On a conference level, I mean. MN vs WI was huge in the WCHA. The schools are still the same distance apart. But the rivalry has been diminished to almost zero.

Gophers lose on the shootout.

Minnesota sports suck.

Holy crap, we will lose to the Badgers at TCF next Saturday.

They really struggle in the 3rd periods this season. Always seem to look slow and out of energy, especially towards the end of games. These young guys need a year in the weight room and better conditioning in the off season I think.

EXCELLENT observation

They are still boys
Playing against men
The 1-2 years of development that other colleges insist on their players getting … is what has set our program back.
Sheer talent can keep you inn games.
But add man muscles and grit and stamina and that's where we separate.
Gopher players don't face years of adversity until they are almost done with college … other college players face it for 2-3 years BEFORE they play college hockey.
My boy Mikey Koster announced this weekend that he'll be on the roster next season. He'll be an upgrade. He has paid some dues.

RIP Doug Woog. Always liked him as a coach and loved all his stories when he was in the booth calling the games. One of the good guys for sure.

Geez, now Wooger leaves us. I can't help it; this feels emblematic of just how badly eroded the once-mighty U of M hockey program has become. It's been a shocking drop-off in terms of on-ice performance, attendance, enthusiasm among those who actually DO show up for games, rivalries, etc.

Some of my best sports memories involve long winter nights in WI tuning in to Gopher hockey games on Friday & Saturday night with my wife. We both looked forward to the "dynamic duo" of Frank Mozzocco and Doug Woog...those two were simply magic on air, together. Wooger, for his part, was never shy about his "M" fandom, but always gave proper deference/credit to the opponent. His knowledge of the game was second to none--kind of a "Tony Romo-esque" way of predicting what was about to unfold on the ice. How lucky we were to have him--as a player (I'm just old enough to remember him as a South St. Paul Packer in the MN State HS Tourney way back in the early 60's), a coach, and as a color commentator on Gopher broadcasts. He was a real beauty; wish I could've met him.

Great stuff Mark
I brushed elbows a couple times, simply a true hockey man who bled maroon and gold
He took my nephew under a wing for a couple years at his summer camps, and my nephew grew to love him like a family member.
Doug had time for everybody. We lost a good one.

Loved Woog. The whole Gopher gameday experience stated going to shit for me when he left the booth. The whole product went downhill. He had some really good teams too.

Getting better, but still look like 5 individuals out there instead of a team on most shifts. These young guys need to learn how to play as a team before we make the next step.

Wow, the Gophers exploded for 3 goals to start the 2nd period and are out shooting the Huskies 19-8 and controlling play.

Looked like old tymey Gopher hockey for a period or two.
Except it was in front of 12,000 empty seats.

Yesterday was the best game I have seen out of this group to date. If they continue to work hard and do the little things we may just have something to build on. They showed more "want to" along the boards than they have ever shown. Nice to see them win a few board battles and come away with the puck.

Thoroughly pissed off some good SCSU players
By simply outworking them
Good signs.
Like you said, lets see if its an anomaly or a trend

Loved the Wooger jerseys
He's up there smiling.

Couldn't believe Clymer spitting on his grave already … "I enjoyed not having Woog yelling at me, when I went away to World Juniors"
He probably enjoyed the break from you too, chief.

Gigi was fun in the booth
Please keep using her
Oh and, remove the bench gal please, before the boys start having issues. She's WAY too hot for that job. (her choice) … We don't need that distraction.

This Gopher team is bipolar I swear. Friday they give up 3 quick goals and never recover and Saturday they made a 1 goal lead last to the end in a shutout. Not going to gain much traction with uneven performances week after week. At least they won to help take the sting of the Vikings poor performance away a little.

Not sure where we are at. Neither are they apparently.

Gophers come out and actually played a good game on a Friday night for a change and beat the Buckeyes 6-3. They are starting to play more as a team and the best part is they are being physical! We are actually winning some puck battles along the boards. Now it would be nice to get a sweep for the weekend against the #6 rated team.
