Good point on Stanton from Olney ..
He hasn't proven he's back from being hit in the face
Makes this even more crazy.

That's what Trekkie said.

So did Olney

Clayton Kershaw had one inning on May 17, I think, when he allowed 7 runs in one inning. Against the freaking Diamondbacks. If not for that inning, he would have had an ERA of something like 1.25 this season.

Speaking of Trekkie,
A couple of months ago, I checked out of the Hilton in SLC, only to find out Comic Con had been going on next door.
Kind of thought it would have been a fun bar scene, nerds picking on sports guy and business guy, pulling nerd chicks, etc.

Multi-year deal for failed starter now bullpen guy

The White Sox will announce the signing of left-handed reliever Zach Duke later today, reports Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com (Twitter link).

The Dodgers are “aggressively pursuing” Alexei Ramirez in trade talks, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). The veteran Ramirez, owed $10MM in 2015 with a 2016 option for the same amount, is known to be available in trades, though the White Sox haven’t been said to be shopping him.

The Dodgers could potentially lose shortstop Hanley Ramirez to free agency, and their pursuit of Ramirez in trades could signal that they aren’t confident in their ability to retain him or simply don’t want to commit to him at shortstop any longer due to his defensive deficiencies. Letting him walk and sign elsewhere would, of course, net the Dodgers a compensatory draft pick in 2015.

Cuban infielders Alex Guerrero and Erisbel Arruebarrena were both signed to large contracts within the past year (four years, $28MM and five years, $25MM, respectively) and would seem to present in-house options at short. However, each of those players was signed by the previous front office. New president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, GM Farhan Zaidi and VP Josh Byrnes may not be as bullish on that duo as the previous regime. This is purely speculation on my behalf, but it’s possible, even, that one of those two names could be up for discussion in trade talks.

12:36pm: The White Sox have announced the signing of Duke to a three-year, $15MM contract. Duke will earn $4.5MM in 2015, $5MM in 2016 and $5.5MM in 2017, according to the team’s release.

Stanton breakdown

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets the full breakdown: after earning the previously-reported $30MM total over the first three years of the deal, Stanton will take home annual values of $25MM (2018), $26MM (2019, 2020), $29MM (2021, 2022), $32MM (2023, 2024, 2025), $29MM (2026), and $25MM (2027).

The deal also includes a $25MM club option for 2028, which c

The A's claimed outfielder Alex Hassan off waivers from the Red Sox on Monday, adding roster depth amid an otherwise quiet start to their offseason.

Hassan, 26, appears to be a true A's fit, bringing with him a career .396 on-base percentage spanning six Minor League seasons, including a .378 clip with Triple-A Pawtucket in 2014. The right-handed hitter also finished with a .287 average and eight home runs for Pawtucket.

Gotta say I don't really like the Butler deal. I'm a Butler fan, and yes, FA is weak these days, but I just don't like spending $10M on a DH. It's funny; I wonder if the Cubs and A's would consider trading back. Smardz and Russell both fit the others' needs much more now.

I am impressed with Stantons composure and maturity level.
Bright young man whose demeanor matches his talent, it appears.
Pleasantly surprised.

What's so impressive about that? The Twins have been trotting out pitchers with NO arms for years.

The Dodgers beefed up their needy bullpen on Thursday night, acquiring veteran right-hander Joel Peralta and Minor League lefty Adam Liberatore from the Rays in exchange for right-handers Jose Dominguez and Greg Harris.

Pretty good for TB,considering they picked Peralta off the scrap heap a couple of years ago.

The White Sox have signed first baseman Adam LaRoche to a two-year, $25MM deal, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
So he and the ROY will rotate between 1B and DH.

Meanwhile MN goes with the slap hitter at first base, and the kid with power at DH.
