The Frank Thomas commercials are super creepy.

I am not bothered by the excessive celebrations. I was bothered by the racist gesture.

I would give Houston somewhat of a pass for what they went through with the Hurricane.

That being said, excessive celebrations are the norm in the NFL. Consider Thielen's TD catch. I thought his soccer type celebration was cool, given the location, etc. But old timers would say that after a touchdown, you simply hand the ball to the ref. Those days are long gone. And I am one of those old timers who hated the post TD celebrations a number of years ago. Now, I really don't care that much.

I'll admit I've barely watched any of the series to notice the cockiness of the 2 teams. I do know there were a number of Astros during the season vs MN that were pretty arrogant.
Guess you can be when you kick the crap outta the competition.

The HRs and the 13-12 score?
Stuff needs to change. The strike zone, the baseballs. I don't mind high-scoring games, but that's ridiculous.

And any thought of expansion should scare every GM and manager. A ton of scores like this would be the norm. Also would need IMO to expand the roster by a couple, and go with
active/inactive status on a given night to help pitching survive.

I think Frank looks good for a former athlete his age. I guess my standards are low.

The racist gesture deserved a suspension NOW
Chickenshit move to push it off until next year
They've now tied their own hands ... Dont expect anything to be off-limits if that's how you are going to punish.

It was absolutely the correct move. My issue is that it wasn't for enough games. Should have been at least 10.

Much better HP ump tonight
40 degrees cooler weather
Hoping for a more-normal game tonight.
Will LA figure out Verlander?

Tim Kurkijan told me this ump is much better both in the eye test and thru analytics of his work
Tim Kurkijan told me he watched BP today, he said "the temp is forty degrees cooler and the ball is not flying as far"
By more-normal I meant 2-1
I hope Verlander fails, but am betting he doesn't. He seems to be on a mission.

I was just reasserting my earlier points. I guess I figured you could read them and didn't think I needed to restate them. Fine, here goes:

1. I would agree with suspend now if he had done it in the open; on the field, parading through the dugout, doing it if Yu happened to look in the dugout.

2. He tried to do it in private and failed miserably. It was well after the attention and celebration was over. He was sitting on top of the bench with his back against the back wall of the dugout. The gesture was to the teammate he was talking to and didn't last a full second. It's like the politician who doesn't realize the mike was on. It doesn't make the action any less pathetic or racist, but it does affect IMO, how severely you punish.

3. I don't believe other sports would have suspended during a championship game or series. We have the NHL, where the few players of color in the league are constantly subjected to racist taunts from other teams and there fans with impunity or the NFL who punished testing positive for weed more severely than domestic violence until a player got caught punching out his fiance. There isn't a whole lot of precedent that says they would punish a player any more severely for that act.

4. He was contrite and arranged a face to face meeting with Darvish, so he could apologize in person.

5. I don't think the entire team should be punished in the series for a split second of gross stupidity by one of its players.

BTW, I was in LA all last week. The consensus of the locals isn't nearly as unanimous as you might think. And several of the people I talked to admitted there desire for immediate suspension was partly motivated by the fact that it would help the Dodgers chances.

Hopefully that satisfies you. Feel free to snark away if it doesn't.

Read your posts about it and enjoyed your opinion.
I have one too.
Punishment to me has to hurt. Start of next regular season is laughable to players who are right now competing for a title.
Completely understand your points and respect your opinion.
Only part I'd say I have issue with, is thinking it's better if fewer people see it?
The kid played in Japan fer chrissakes, he should be a better person after the experience.
I'm just thinking at this point every player is thinking, "well, at least nothing I could do will get me booted out of this WS"
That's dangerous IMO.

I respect your opinion too, but I think the blanket "punishment has to hurt" is a bit of an over simplification of the circumstances. And yes I draw a distinction between a player trying to do it out of sight as opposed to doing it specifically for public consumption. I think that is one of the factors you consider when you decide how severley to punish. If he had gone back to the clubhouse for a minute and happened to do it while talking to teammate and the jock washer caught it on his phone and posted it to YouTube would you feel the same way? I'm not fan of lowering the boom to make an example somebody to protect image. I will agree that 5 games next year is laughable. He should be suspended long enough to make it expensive for himself.

Yep, we see in-post season suspensions differently.
It WOULD hurt his teammates, and team, that's why I'd do, and that's why you wouldn't.
I can understand both sides of that.
I also see where you were going with how many people saw it, and you're right that I wouldn't like it if someone snuck it to the public out of a locker room situation.
But it happened where it did, and we saw it.
Glad it's over but sad that type of ignorant behavior still exists, and probably always will.
Darvish handled it better than anyone, and should be commended, IMO.

I agree it is incredibly sad. I used to be a lot more optimistic that it would eventually die out, but onset of the Breitbart era has been like a slug in the gut. The ignorant f***ers came crawling out of the woodwork en mass and there was a damn site more of them than I anticipated. There are just areas where that ignorance gets ingrained from generation to generation. Damn depressing.

Darvish has been very classy about it and I hope he pitches a shutout. My son moved to LA a couple of years ago, so the Dodgers are kind of a second choice team to me.

When you get old, can you really not throw a ball overhand anymore??? I just saw Tommy Lasorda underhand roll a 1st pitch and it made me depressed.

Tommy is low-key sick. Not overly talked about, but when you see him out and about, which isn't much, his handlers are very protective of him. Tommy needs help eating.

I don't mind the high scoring, if it was me I would have robots do balls and strikes. I don't care for umps expanding the strike zone for certain pitchers, the Braves got away with murder for years and it drove me nuts.

Sounds like the playoff baseballs are different than the regular season balls, pitchers complaining they can put the spin on them like they want. That doesn't seem right to me.

I think some of the short fences in MLB are ridiculous. I have seen high school diamonds that are deeper down the line.

Games are lasting too long, I went to bed for the 13-12 game. I will try and watch tonight since it is a terminator.

Thanks, I didn't know. He looks pretty healthy for a 90-year old.

Verlander actually pitched better than I expected, guy has been remarkable.
Darvish gets his chance tonight.
Hmmmm, two late-in-the-game pick-ups are the two most important guys still playing.
Not always a bad idea to spend money, people!!!!!!
Sometimes one spendy acquisition is all your team might need to win it all.
Or, just sit back and say, "we weren't winning it all anyway".
Pretty good ballgame, really disappointed that Pederson had to ruin his big moment with more "all about me", but it was a big moment.
Taylor has impressed me a lot for LA. Him and Barnes.
Both staffs had seemed incredibly deep, both at this point seem to be running on fumes.
Dodgers got their stud to finish the game, they'll probably need it again tonight.
Should be a fun night, I bet we see EVERYONE. Kershaw, Kuechel, yep, all of em.

And Pederson just did a normal home run trot.

Again.......I really don't mind the excessive demonstrative celebrations.

I was thinking how wonderful it would be if he stepped in a divot and sprained his ankle while he was doing it.
