Nice job exaggerating. You failed to make a point.

On the surface, it would seem the Hall created the concept of blank caps for players like Mussina, who spent 10 seasons with the Orioles and eight with the Yankees while starring for both. But they are an uncommon compromise in recent years; Halladay will be the first to go in with a blank cap since Tony La Russa and Greg Maddux in 2014. Before that, the last player to do so was Catfish Hunter in 1987.

"Both places were huge factors in my career," Mussina said. "It's a tough decision. I'm going to need some guidance, help, opinions, options, before we ultimately make that decision."

-------------------------------

How in the heck did the HOF not make Maddux wear a Braves cap on his plaque? Seems like a pure money grab by him. Wants to be associated with the Cubs. I wonder if he actually requested a Cubs cap, but the HOF said "no." The compromise was a blank cap?

They should re-do Wade Boggs' cap. The Rays.

Will be interesting to see if Mariano Rivera is the first unanimous selection.

The other lock is Roy Halladay.

I also predict Edgar Martinez and Mike Mussina sneak in today. Both good selections.

Look for Larry Walker to take a big jump up. He may get in next year.

Bonds and Clemens will inch up slightly. My guess is they will both get in on their last year on the ballot, whenever that is. 3 years or so?

Hoping Lance Berkman doesn't fall below 5%. It would be like when Kenny Lofton fell off. These are guys that should get more consideration. It would be like if Bert fell off the ballot too soon. Glad that didn't happen and we had more time to evaluate his career.

Although,
Bert’s constant reminders would have given us plenty of time to Ponder his career.

Hall of Famer, only person to win MVP in both AL and NL and MLB's first black manager, Frank Robinson is in hospice care at age 83.

A great player from the famous Earl Weaver Orioles teams. I eye-witnessed a few 8th inning three-run HR off the bat of Frank Robinson. A great player in the Willie Mays and Hank Aaron genre.

Frank Robinson is best known to the youngsters as the guy Matthew LeCroy made cry.

Ha! Made me look! Are Harper or Machado really worth the amount of cash they are expecting? The Sox could get four quality players for what they want to pay for Manny.

Nobody is worth the kind of money that has been spent on FA over the past couple of decades. It is amazing that team owners have been this slow to figure how that long-term contracts NEVER work out in the favor of the team.

Another awesome thing the Yankees have tricked people into doing.
One thing I agree with, CPA .... the exorbitant, crazy-money contracts are simply stupid.

The Red Sox have taken the bait and the initial payback is working for the most part, but soon they will hit a lull just like the Yankees have.
Yankees and the Patriots ... pissing people off for decades, while consistently being better than everyone (at the things everyone hates)

It actually took smart GMs and heads of baseball ops, not smart owners, to figure this out.

Why do you call them smart? I have been lamenting long-term contracts for three decades. None of these guys are smart, they are very slow to react.

Beginning to wonder if Harper should have taken an earlier deal offered by Washington.

Don’t think he is going to get anywhere near the money his agent likely told him.

I remember him feeling pretty bad for Matt LeCroy as a C one game. He was managing LeCroy and the other team realized they could steal easily against him. So they did. Robinson had to pull Lumpy McBugeater from the game mid Inning it got so bad.

Player HOFer without question.

The Twins FO isn't even denying they are being cheap. They are actually bragging about it.

Growing # of players thinking some sort of walk out may happen this year over the owner's refusal to make FA hotter than it's been the last 2 years.

Yup, brilliant idea. Fall farther behind by alienating a shrinking fan base.

Guess a combination of things, some I can think of (no particular order)
1. They haven't done very well at draft and developing.
2. Bean counter figured out they would put enough butts in the seats to make it worthwhile.
3. Owner found his wallet.

Be interesting to know if these teams are bidding against themselves. I will be surprised if it takes this long and they end up with $300 million plus.

STOP
THE
PRESSES

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- In apparent contradiction to his own commissioner, Boston Red Sox owner John Henry said Monday that, while there is not a perfect correlation between a bigger payroll and winning, "spending more money helps."
