I would keep Udoh over:

Gideon or any LB other than Wilson, Barr, Kendricks. No need to keep more LBers than last year.

Hill, or even Colllins at this point (and I'm a huge fan of Collins - but he can't stay on the field)

A 3rd QB - Play Sloter with the 2's in practice and preseason games. Give him a g**d*** chance to win the back up job. But my gawd this notion of keeping a 3rd QB on the roster is crazy.

A 6th WR.

Ham, keep 1 and go with the young guy.

Thank you Dana, Phil and Bruce for the game film hints. I had forgotten about Skillout & had used it a few times last season

Probably my favorite play was a quick strike to Zylstra (I think). I haven't rewatched but blitz/Pressure, but Sloter had a great pre-read. Quick hitter, accurate/catchable led to YAC. I think he even threw to the location where the blitz was coming from. Showed me everything I want to see in a QB.

I agree. Plus I'd keep Udoh over a 5th wide receiver, since our 5th's are replacement level talent.

Hard to keep 3 QBs, 10 DLineman, 6WR, and 10 Offensive lineman (3 QB and 6th WR don't see any playing time).... That being said you have to find a way to keep possible high end lineman....Samia and Udoh. I would have no problem cutting Jones and Jaleel Johnson to keep those two.

2QB, 9 DLineman, 5 WR, and 10 Olineman is what I would do.

From what I've heard Jones has played well. There will be surprises, though, no doubt. Good players will have to cut.

I didn't get any response for my take on the final cuts with regard to the cornerbacks. Any comments before I move on to the next position group? Let's make it the linebackers.

I agree with the CBs: Waynes, Rhodes, Mac, Hughes. I probably keep Boyd or Bernicke at this point. If Hughes needs to start on PUP, then you have to keep both. Hill will be on suspension, he can be evaluated when he comes back.

With Kearse looking so good at a Big Slot and safety, I think you can get away with only 5 CBs at the start of the season (again depending on Hughes and counting Kearse as S).

Talk seems to be that Hughes is close. If he's put on PUP he will be ineligible for 8 weeks.

If he isn't put on the PUP he still might not be ready to play until week 3 or 4 (just speculating).

Rhodes
Waynes
Mac
Hughes
Boyd

Keep Bene if Hughes is placed on PUP

Because Hughes will not be ready for game one, keeping five means only having four. I think the team has to keep six including Hughes. But I like your take on the idea of counting Kearse as a nickel safety. I didn't think of that.

I think we normally keep 25 for both offense and defense plus 3 specialist (K,P,LS)

10 DB
6 LB
9 DL
-----
25

9 OL
5 WR
3 TE
4 RB
1 FB
3 QB
-----
25

Being we may want to keep 4 TE's we need to either trim the RB to 3 or QB to 2

Linebackers group is going to be tough. I think they keep six. I'd like to sneak Cameron Smith on the practice squad, but he was a fifth rounder and he leads the team in tackles in the preseason if I'm not mistaken. Of course you keep Barr and Kendricks. Wilson has not looked sharp this preseason, but he was a stud last year. Shoot. Ok, my mind says no, but my instinct says we keep Wilson and Smith. That leaves two between Downs, Cliett and Brothers. Maybe the Vikings can trade one of those guys, but I will say Cliett is the one out, but that hurts. I like Cliett a lot, but I'm just making a prediction. I can't see keeping more than six because the team is in nickel a lot and Kearse can be kind of a nickel linebacker. Shoot. I forgot about Gedeon. I say he's out too, I guess. This stinks.

it's hard to find an lb that is physical and that has speed...the reason that zimmer likes gedeon is because he's physical - wilson and cliett have quickness, but they struggle to get off of blocks and are easily run out of position...i was hoping to see something out of downs in preseason, but he, too, is not physical enough and i've seen him take some bad angles and miss tackles....

brothers is more physical, but slower....

i think that we have bad choices at lb....

if you can't get off the block - take out the blocker...early....

Zimmer missed a fairly clear chance to challenge a defensive pass interference call potentially committed against Bisi Johnson that could’ve given the ball to the Vikings near the goal line. Instead, Mannion threw his Pick 6 on the very next play. Zimmer seemed exasperated by the new rule after the game. “It’s hard to know when they’re going to call it, when they’re not going to call it,” he said.

Getting Zim to improve his clock mgmt and when/when not to throw the challenge flag would be like Cousins suddenly developing pocket presence.

Neither is going to happen. they are what they are.

Jones playing well makes Dozier expendable.

Only 3 RB but 2 FBs?

Only read his Offense list so far.

EDIT

3- DT- A. Watts

4- OT O. Udoh

Neither make it to the Practice Squad.

I can see wanting to keep Blasingame. He can actually do FB and RB duties in a pinch.

But with Cook's History of injury....I wouldn't want to carry just two other guys. Mattison and Boone would be fine, but I think they want to be prepared for more missed Cook time.

I think at a minimum the coaches need to start talking about Sloter to #2, Boone to #2, and Irv to #1. I know Irv to #1 seems premature. Irv’s blocking’s last night was far superior to Rudolph’s and Irv’s receiving skills this far have shown to be at least as good as rudolph’s with potential for so much more.

Incredibly premature. Rudolph has been looking great in camp and good in the two pre season games so far.

OOH you found a play that Kyle blocked his man and kept him out of the play then didn't dive into a pile when the play was over. At least that is what I saw.

My Japanese wife works at a store in Eagan and has shared with me that twice this week Viking players have come in as customers. She is very outgoing and spoke to them saying that "her husband knows all of the players and is a big fan, but I don't follow football, but are you one of the Vikings?" The one that she spoke to today said, shhh! She described them as being really big and muscular- that they stand out as being different than the other ordinary customers who walk in. In both cases she did not think to ask what their name was because it didn't matter to her, but she apologized to me because she knew it mattered to me.

What ethnicity are your other wives? J/K.

That's a BINGO! I've been pining for a "clock management coach" for a very long time. Zimmer, Childress, Tice and Denny all seemed to have dyscalculia on the sideline. I don't remember being wowed by Burns or Grant either...

EDIT: nor Les Steckel lol
