It would be so nice if we could trade Reiff and restructure Harrison right now....

Courtney Cronin@CourtneyRCronin
Vikings were busy Saturday shoring up their defensive line. Per @AdamSchefter
, the Jaguars are trading DE Yannick Ngakoue to Minnesota for a 2nd and conditional 5th round pick (which could be as high as a 3rd). Ngakoue was franchised by JAX and still has to sign his tender.

Courtney Cronin@CourtneyRCronin
Ngakoue's franchise tender is $17.8 million but I'd expect that number to drop somewhere in the 12-13 range with a restructure on the one-year deal for the DE. Minnesota will then have the ability to offer Ngakoue a long-term deal in 2021 since he didn't sign his tender by July15.

Courtney Cronin@CourtneyRCronin
The Vikings still need to create cap room. I'm hearing LT Riley Reiff could be a prime candidate for a restructure (has a $13.2 million cap hit), but cutting him would be a risky move since 2nd rounder Ezra Cleveland has been at LG throughout camp.

Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero
Recapping the trade:

#Jaguars get:

2nd-round pick in 2021
Conditional 5th-round pick in 2022

#Vikings get:

DE Yannick Ngakoue

Ngakoue will rework his 1-year, $17.788 million franchise tender to complete the deal.

It seems like a horrible trade to me. Ngakoue is a good player, but he's a one year rental. There is no guarantee whatsoever that we can sign him to an extension and we lose a 2nd round pick for sure and possibly a 3rd as well? If he was signed to a decent deal great. He's not.

The 5th rounder becomes a 3rd if the Vikings win the Super Bowl. If that happens It will go down as one of the best trades the Vikings ever made.

Is that the 3rd round condition. Funny thing is Ngakoue could play like crap and Wonnum or Lynch explodes and we win the SuperBowl. It would still cost us the pick.

I'd give up 5 consecutive 1st rounders for one SB win.

I’d cut off a finger.

i'd cut off your thumb....

It's just a game. You guys need some perspective.

If we lose Ngakoue next year we probably get a 3rd round pick right? That softens the blow a little, but I still think we paid too much.
Cook, Cleveland, Kendricks, O'Neill, Alexander. Those are our last 5 second round picks right? Rookie contracts are so valuable.

I wonder if a Clowney signing is coming soon by somebody. Couldn't we have signed him without giving up any draft picks?

Hopefully, this is the case. The silver lining to Pierce opting out this year is we’ll get to see if Johnson or Watts can become a force at 3T. If one of them can, then next year we’ll have the best dline in football.

I hope this move isn't because of an injury to Hunter. That would be bad.

That’s an excellent point. So in theory the one year rental could only cost the Vikings a 5th round pick and a move back from the 2nd round to the 3rd round.

If the season gets canceled, it could end up being a one week rental.

"Ngakoue was franchised by the Jaguars this offseason and has yet to sign his $17.8 million tender. The Vikings have $12.9 million in cap space, according to ESPN's Roster Management System. Sources tell ESPN that Ngakoue is expected to take a considerable paycut to get out of Jacksonville to the tune of $13 million. Because he did not sign his franchise tender by July 15, Ngakoue cannot work out a long-term deal with the Vikings until next offseason."

I wonder if we will see Odenigbo at 3tech. Just like on the offensive line, we want the best players on the field.

New #Vikings DE Yannick Ngakoue is 25 years and five months old. He's five months younger than DE Danielle Hunter.

Yannick will have to sign his tender. I wonder if the rework of the tender (Yannick taking a paycut) will include something to the effect of the Vikings not being able to tag him again next year.

This will also allow Ifeadi to rush more from the inside - which could make the whole line better. Jayln Holmes is probably gone.

What we do next for the cap is probably the most interesting part. Do we do restructures and kick the can down the road into a year where the cap might go down? And risk losing Cook, Harris, Oneil, etc? Or do we offset with a Reiff trade/cut and start the season at LT with Hill and move Ezra back to LT and hope he's ready at some point?

Spielman and Zimmer must think we are closer than a lot of us fans think we are.

Ngakoue’s 37.5 sacks are 10th most by age 24 (season) since 1982 (when sacks became an official stat).

Hunter through 2018 was tied for 4th on this list, with 40 sacks.

Hunter and Ngakoue are the only players with 35+ sacks by age 24 drafted outside the top of the 1st round.

Since the start of 2016, Ngakoue, 25, is one of just five players with at least 35 sacks and 10 forced fumbles in that span, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The others are Chandler Jones, Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack and Frank Clark.

Ngakoue had a pass-rush win rate of 21% as an edge rusher last season, per NFL Next Gen Stats, which ranked higher than Griffen (17%) and Hunter (15%), Ngakoue's new teammate.

The two edge rushers will help each other. They can't double team both of them, can they?

Wow. I gotta say, the Vikes have a lot of question marks on D this year BUT it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the team once again fields a top defense. The young CB’s have to perform, but they appear to have the talent to do so, and Watts or Johnson need to take a big step forward at 3T. Definitely possible.

If I understand things correctly he is already signed and not to the tender. More like our remaining 12.9 million cap space. It was part of the deal to facilitate the trade.

Here's a bit I found on RotoWorld.

YANNICK NGAKOUE
DL, MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Vikings acquired DE Yannick Ngakoue from the Jaguars for a second-round pick and a conditional 2022 fifth-round pick.
The conditional pick can become a fourth-rounder if Ngakoue makes the Pro Bowl. Ngakoue has yet to sign his $17.8 million franchise tender, but he's expected to restructure his deal to help create cap space. The Vikings are getting a star in Ngakoue, who has at least eight sacks in every season. He'll bookend Danielle Hunter to form one of the better pass rushing tandems in the league.

I have to believe getting to work with Patterson was a big selling point~

There are many other selling points but Patterson was the one that jumped out to me~

In this case I am quite confident my understanding is more complete than yours. Don't call me out for my lack of understanding when you're the one who isn't getting what's going on.
It is correct that he hasn't signed the tender, but there is no requirement of him signing the Tender which is over 17 million. He has agreed to sign for less than the tender. If he hadn't agreed to sign for less than the tender no deal would have been made.

I would also add Sean Mannion as a loser, although I really can't qualify that as "Camp" specific.

Mannion, Browning...I just don't get why we're so unwilling to have competent back-up QBs?

Or at least guys with some potential.

Kaepernick is just sitting there.....

I will become a Packers fan if that happens.

You're likely to remain safely purple.

I hope so. I really don't want to root for the Green and Gold. My feelings against Kaepernick are so strong that I was thinking that even if he is a Viking for a minute I will never root for the Vikings again. But really, there must be another team to root for better than the Packers. My daughter lives in Michigan. Maybe I could root for the Lions.

Too bad your near death experience wasnt able to make you s better person.

Really? Any person you don't like? What a horrid person you must be.

I'm comfortable in my own skin. You just worry about which MAGA hat to wear to the next rally. There's no opinion you can hold that will mean a split to me.

Jackass. I can see that all the empathy/support extended to you back when you were having your issues was completely lost on you.
