Source said a return to the Vikings isn't out of the question for Kline.

(Ben Goessling on Twitter)

That makes no sense. He was signed for the next two years at a very reasonable price. If he comes back I believe we still take the dead cap hit for his previous contract.

Ouch. You know, I believe another issue could be that Kline wants to start and receive a starters level of pay.

He was already starting for us and under contract.

Save 1.5 and how much next year (7 or so?). That might the strategy. Might also reflect how they feel about Samia (as some have already pointed out).

A lot of dead money this year.

So, structure new contracts with minimal hit this year and big hit next year.

Surprising move to say the least considering the dead cap hit. Kline though has suffered from some concussions but he wasn't a bad G.

Agree they like Samia so he will slide in to the RG spot.

Just praying they plan on replacing Elf.

I find it somewhat curious that they want to re-sign Brett Jones.

Sure hope it doesn't point to the fact that they plan on starting Elf at LG so Jones would be the backup C.

This is probably the best explanation for the Vikings cutting Josh Kline -- with offsets, they could stand to save a bit more of his $6M 2020 cap hit if he signs elsewhere, and the pro scouts probably have a number of other free agents in mind if he doesn't return with a pay cut.

I can only speculate that the Bengals are giving Alexander a chance to compete for an outside CB position and that Mac hopes to parlay that into a Waynes type contract next year.

Zimmers entire defensive scheme only works with a dominate NG. That’s just a fact.

Interesting.

Isn’t that the Sirles who was a Olineman with us?

Dude (Pierce) wasn’t completely healthy last year, and came in out of shape.

Previously he was a beast, and perhaps has only scratched the surface.

Yes. He just officially retired. I wished him well on Twitter and was flattered that he responded. I always liked him. Have you ever heard him on the radio? He is very thoughtful and well spoken.

I don't know if we offered more money, but I bet signing his holder helped persuade him, not to mention the benefit of kicking indoors.

Sean Payton tests positive for COVID. I don't wish the worst on any human, but he was at horse races last weekend - what a Jack-$$$. Plus his on the side line antics are contemptible.

I was having give and take with Ludford on this topic yesterday and then he wrote an article. You know, I think the Vikings need to figure out what they want to be before they make their personnel decisions. Or, do they try to figure out how they can best take advantage of who they are after the draft?

For a guy who is supposed to be a CB wisperer and DB genius Zimmer sure has let the cupboards go empty and alienated or run off some of what should be his most faithful unit... Not sure that is a good quality in a HC...

So the 2020 Vikings D currently look like this:

DE Odenigbo
DT Pierce
DT Johnson (Kinlaw)R
DE Hunter

OLB Wilson
MLB Kendricks
OLB Barr

CB Hughes
CB Hill (AJ Terrell) R
S Harris (Delpit) R
S Smith

Not a bad start as the cupboard is definitely not bare. RS needs to add a cheap vet CB, trade Harris for a 2nd rounder and use that money on a starting LG. Draft CB, S and DT on D, WR and OG on O and the team will at least have some potential.

Was mostly speaking of the very thin area of corner back on being bare... But we do have a number of guys who would better fit a differing scheme than Zimmer runs... AND maybe why the bringing in of Capers for his "fresh ideas" from a 3-4 background...

good read...

i think we'll sign sendejo, and we're definitely drafting a cb in the 1st round and a safety by the 3rd....

Sendejo outplayed Kearse. Mac & Hughes outplayed Waynes/Rhodes so you have to cut the fat. The only guy I am going to miss is Mac out of the bunch.

Don't forget about Watts and Hercules on the DLine....guys that work well in both 3-4 and 4-3.

I am just trying to figure out the Vikings plan. Do you think he feels like he gets more out of a young defense than the older guys with big contracts? I feel like the defense was better the first two yrs he got here or is it that the nfll knows how to defeat Zimmers defense

One reason it was better was because Joseph was more active. I am concerned that we don't have a 3 tech who can pressure the QB.
