ORIGINAL: Hats4Bats Smith - Marsette hilights... This was what we needed. PUMPED Lengthy hilight reel.. but worth it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pR7m07KLqA Nate Stanley looks pretty good in these, as well! SOD. My favorite draft pick br far. Especially when you consider his QB at Iowa was crap. Several of those plays, he had gotten wide open only to have to slow up and wait for the ball and the DB to get there. That could explain why I saw him making so many contested catches. Also he won't have the #1 CB on him....which would explain the tight coverage too. The Vikes probably are only needing 20-30 catches from a third WR. 150-180 from Thielen/JJ. 40-50 from Irv. 30 to Cook.....so 100 catches from the rest? You really think the coverage he faced at Iowa was better than what he will face in the nfl? Really. Still easier to catch a pass against a third corner when the other two on the field are the focus (Thielen/JJ). He was the main weapon at Iowa and there is this: Ihmir Smith-Marsette - The Daily Iowanhttps://dailyiowan.com › 2020/10/21 › ihmir-smith-mar... Oct 21, 2020 — Senior Ihmir Smith-Marsette led Iowa in receiving yards last season, and lines up at receiver, it's likely Smith-Marsette will be double-teamed. Never said the corners where better than NFL corners. Said that he was facing a third corner and wasn't going to be double teamed....read into it what you like. The coverage he faced in college was tighter (as the #1 WR at Iowa) than what he’ll face in the nfl as the #3 wr? So ... we should expect to see him more wide open in the pros than he was at Iowa? Thats not me reading into anything ... that’s simply your line of reasoning. I’m just curious to see if you are going to double down on this ... Yes...if you are a Def cordinator will you focus will be on JJ/Thielen/Irv or the Rookie. Also again who was the #1 WR at Iowa? Was he double teamed? If you watched the Vikings last year which WR's had the easiest time getting open on third down? (Bisi and Beebe) because coverage rolled to where Thielen/JJ were and Bisi/Beebe were against the 3rd or even at times 4th corner. That is if the Vikes use 3 wr sets more this year. First of all ... NFL players are, in theory, professional football players ... You know what, 'efff that! I am NOT going to tick off the absurdities in your 'argument'. I am going to assume you are just mocking me but that you really know better (wink wink nudge nudge). Very funny Phil. You really had me going there for a second. Am I missing something? Is Phil just saying it might be easier to go against single coverage than double coverage? Yes, very much. Phil thinks Ihmir Smith-Marsette saw tighter coverage at Iowa than he would in the nfl ... as our third WR, if he makes the team and actually plays. Even though he didn't lead Iowa in receptions in 2020, Phil thinks he must have been the focal point of opposing defenses. Okay. I see what you are saying. You are saying that ISM wasn't the focal point of their offense and didn't receive special attention. I thought you were arguing that it would be harder to go against Vikings NB Chris Jones(1 on 1) than Northwestern's Newsome with safety help or many other Power 5 number 1's with safety help. No, you still don't. And like Phil, I can tell you would never admit it if you did. Wasn't even a full-time starter in 2020. Played in 7 games, started 4. maybe the other three games had to do with injuring himself while flipping into the endzone against Wisc or forfeiting playing time for drunk driving ... not sure ... but no, I don't think defensive coordinators were pulling their hair out designing exotic coverages to minimize his lackluster number of RECs I DO think he had a minimum of chances at Iowa and I DO hope he's a better WR in the Pros than he was in college. As well as a decent KR. I don't need to warp the realities of college and pro football to do so. WTH Relax man.
